We are seeing the biggest witch hunt since the McCarthy era and you know how that one ended. I wonder if Mike Johnson and the other House Republicans who are going after Liz Cheney are acquainted with that dark passage in American history. This passage looks to be even darker. “A report released Tuesday by GOP leaders issued a harsh rebuke of the ‘failures and politicization’ of the now-disbanded House Jan. 6 Committee and recommended a criminal investigation into former Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, one of the panel’s leading voices.”
“Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi’s multimillion-dollar Select Committee was a political weapon with a singular focus to deceive the public into blaming President Trump for the violence on January 6 and to tarnish the legacy of his first Presidency,” Republicans in the 128-page report declared.
In addition to the recommendation that the FBI open an investigation into Cheney’s actions, the report also accused her of witness tampering for being in touch with former White House aide and committee witness Cassidy Hutchinson.
Forget about Joseph McCarthy, now this is starting to sound more like the Nuremberg trials. Liz Cheney is understandably livid. She stood up for democracy and what was her reward? To lose her House seat and to become a pariah. And now insult is being added to injury and she’s being persecuted by her own brethran. They had gallows for Mike Pence, what’s next, a stake in the town square with a lot of straw around it and they’ll burn Cheney like a witch?

This is nothing short of memory holing the truth. This is straight out of Orwell. You’re watching revisionist history take place before your very eyes. And make no mistake, this is how Donald Trump wants it. He wants to solidify the fantasy that the 2020 election was *stollen* from him and he was the victim of a conspiracy to deprive him of what was rightfully his.
The awful irony here, is that there’s not a sitting Republican official in either chamber of Congress who believes that Trump won the 2020 election or that the 61 cases which Trump lost were wrongfully decided. And that’s what makes this sheer evil. This is going along to get along in the worst possible context. Trump is a madman with an agenda and the House Republicans are humoring him and indulging his worst instincts. Nothing good can possibly come of this.
I hope the magas outside of Wyoming realize the Cheneys, along with every teenager in that state, are armed. Her dad has already shown his willingness to plug a friend. What armaments do you think those red hats will attract?
Don’t forget that when Dick Cheney shot his hunting buddy in the freaking face (luckily they were bird hunting and the game only required small shot in the shells) Cheney himself said damned near nothing about the matter. His friends however, the guy he SHOT (again, in the face!) was the one who went before cameras and issued an apology. WTF? But I swear the guy actually apologized for putting the VP through that ordeal. When it was CHENEY who effed up. So yeah, with a dude that cold-hearted I think the folks in Wyoming know better than to mess with the Cheneys.
Can Cheney trust that due process under our current judicial system will exonerate her? I doubt it. This is a time when ALL organizations that purport to defend the rule of law need to speak up. Run ads during broadcasts of football games, NASCAR races, etc.
If the GOP gets away with persecuting Cheney, she will be the first of many that will be targeted.
