Today we are disturbed. During Ted Cruz’s speech, someone was shouting out actual threats against three people mentioned during his speech. Real threats. And who knows if someone might take that as a reason to try to assault these people. Has it really come down to this? Someone doesn’t like a Democrat and puts them at risk for what they‘ve said and/or what they represent? Will they do something such as intimidate a person for Republicans to win in the midterms?

This is how bad our country is getting. This is what Trump is encouraging. If someone is disliked for whatever reason, use violence to get them out of the way. People aren’t being anywhere close to restrained. It started with J6 and has come completely into the light. It started smallish, with “lock her up” cries about Hilary Clinton’s own email server. No, she made a mistake, but nothing was found to be concerning, yet they still chant lock her up because of the will of their orange man-child leader, their god?

And then, moving forward to the riot. Trump incited it. He watched for hours as people were chased around the Capitol by others intending to harm them. Remember “hang Mike Pence”, because he did the right thing and didn’t try to do anything to steal the election back from former President Biden? Because he performed the correct role of Vice President and didn’t do the wrong thing for Trump? There was a hangman’s noose set up outside the Capitol.

That day is when everything really started going downhill. The sitting president at that time was trying to get the country back because it “belongs” to him, and not the newly elected president? The man who couldn’t accept that he lost because it hurt his fee-fees? Then 1.5% plus half of the country put him back in office, and here we are. Trump would encourage violence if it was to his benefit.

Respect to Raw Story:

Threats against Democrats shouted during a speech by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) at the GOP midterm convention shocked onlookers as the video circulated online. Cruz called Democrats “evil” during his Thursday speech at the GOP midterm convention in Dallas, when the crowd started yelling, “He should be shot!” The threat was directed at the Democrats Cruz was mentioning. The Bulwark reported that the threat rang out three times as Cruz mentioned New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, and Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.

What the actual hail. Shoot someone because you don’t like them? That’s excessive and uncalled for. Threats like these should not be the norm. As far as we know, whoever was shouting was not questioned by security. It should have happened. Since they had security all over the place for this shindig. But there’s been nothing available on the news, so apparently not.

Online, people were shocked by the flagrant calls for violence and that Cruz didn’t react to them. //// “This is actual threats of political violence,” noted Missouri congressional candidate Fred Wellman. //// “Hey @SecretService—I’d like to report a death threat if not multiple death threats,” wrote journalist Morgan J. Freeman. //// “Holy s—,” reacted political strategist Kelsie Taggart. “You’re telling me Ted Cruz didn’t hear this.” ////

“Abdul El-Sayed and James Talarico are decent, honest people with integrity who are trying to make the lives of their constituents better,” commented baseball writer Danny Abriano. “Their reward? Vitriol and lies being spewed about them that just led to death threats.” //// “On the same day Republicans pretend to denounce political violence because of Charlie Kirk, we have a Republican calling for violence against a Democrat at their convention,” blasted author and activist Hemant Mehta.

Exactly. Hypocritical only begins to describe it. Dangerous is the same. This is what we have come to. Someone shouts threats, and nothing happens. America is no longer what she was. She’s wearing thin in places and getting a little rusty here and there. We have to hope that flipping Congress will let us make some improvements for everyone. And the first thing should be getting ICE under control. Then we’ll figure out where to go from there.

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
