I’ve been seeing this Pompeo crap the past couple of days and wonder where Wood or anyone else has gotten such a notion. If Pence (or any VP) were to resign, die or become unable to perform his duties the office of VP remains vacant until the established procedure for filling it takes place and there’s no way in hell that could happen so quickly, much less Pompeo being the one selected. You don’t think Hawley, Cruz and others would fight like hell for the spot? Sorting THAT out would take weeks! I assume the idiot brigade is looking at the Presidential line of succession and “bigly” misunderstanding it. It provides for succession to the PRESIDENCY, and the order is VP, Speaker of the House, President Pro Tempore of the Senate (which would be the presiding Officer if Pence were unable to perform his duty on Jan. 6) and only THEN do we get to the Cabinet, with SecState being the first in line once they’ve gone through all the elected officials. However, the fact remains that for a VP vacancy there is no urgency other than a situation like now where the next person after the VP is the Speaker of the House and the Speaker is from the other Party. However as I said it’s not as simple as Trump declaring a new VP and it being a done deal. Congress has a role to play in confirming the new VP!
These people really are stupid. Perhaps the Lincoln Project needs to give them a civics lesson.
I think the reason Pompeo’s name keeps coming up is because he’s so sympathetic to Trump and that’s the key issue, not the fact that any line of succession could actually put him in Pence’s place. This is right-wing alternative reality. If Wood does get disbarred — which is very likely — look for him to be the next wingnut preacher/talk show host. He’ll probably get ordained by Pat Robertson. I’m not joking.

Something I am not clear on is this: if the line of succession is VP, then speaker of the house, how come Nixon was able to choose his new VP rather than it going automatically to the SOTH?
That’s the line of succession to the presidency only. There is no line of succession to the vice presidency. You don’t just move everyone up a slot.

I know there’s a lot to gripe about with the Trump insanity and this might be just me nitpicking, it it bothers me that they all think treason is a capital offense. Most treason convictions don’t result in a death sentence. Nobody has been executed for treason since the Civil War.
