Lauren Boebert craves the spotlight. Just as pigs are said to be never happier than when wallowing in mud, Boebert behaves the same way when up to her eyeballs in attention — except this past few days when the attention has been uniformly to criticize her poor taste and GOP leadership has been hiding in the bushes somewhere, because they certainly haven’t been coming forward to deal with this.
“This” is the ill advised “joke” that Boebert made to her constituents about Ilhan Omar coming to an elevator, when Boebert supposedly cracked wise and said, “Well she doesn’t have a backpack. We should be fine,” and then calling Omar a member of the “jihad squad.” Omar responded yesterday that it was a lie and what in fact happened was the Capitol Police were investigating whether or not Boebert was carrying a gun in the Capitol.
Then today Omar made it clear she was putting her foot down.

I apologize to anyone in the Muslim community I offended with my comment about Rep. Omar. I have reached out to her office to speak with her directly. There are plenty of policy differences to focus on without this unnecessary distraction.

Boebert said she will reach out to Omar and that would be a fascinating exchange to witness. Boebert lacks judgement to an extent that is frightening for anybody but unconscionable in an elected official. She came out of a talent agency and got involved with the GOP. She rode Trump’s coattails with her Second Amendment freak show of wearing a gun at work in her restaurant and having all of her wait staff do the same. She lacks the mental hardware to discern what is pushing the envelope and what is flat out wrong. It’s doubtful that she learned much, if anything, from his debacle but she might have enough sense to keep her mouth shut in the future. Frankly, I doubt it.
My sincere appraisal of this is to wonder if Boebert hasn’t been crying in her beer, “Marge could have gotten away with it,” because I honestly think that that’s her only concern here, raising her stature in the kids-in-juvie-hall clique of the GOP.
It’s an example of a no-pology. She assumes that only some Muslims were offended, and apologizes only to them. Everyone else, too effing bad.
