It hasn’t even been a week. We knew he was a bad choice. But as usual, the Senate approved him anyway. He was interviewed much faster than standard, and he was confirmed much faster than standard. He’s going to be worse than Noem. He really is. So much for the man who, it was said, could talk to both chambers of Congress. He’s diving off the deep end and doesn’t see the anchor attached to his leg. Recognition to Raw Story:
Newly-appointed Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin floated a new way in an interview on Fox News to punish cities that don’t agree to help Immigration and Customs Enforcement round up residents for mass deportation: strip staffing from their international ports of entry.
“I believe sanctuary cities is (sic) not lawful,” Mullin told Fox News’ Bret Baier. “Some of these cities have international airports. If they are a sanctuary city, should they really be processing customs into their city? We need to have a really hard look at that.”
Oh, puh-lease. That has nothing to do with being a sanctuary city. It has to do with international almost everything. He’s going to pull staff who won’t be able to check in travelers. They won’t be able to unload boats in port. It looks like he’s saying he’s going to lock down the country to international travelers and goods because somewhere is a sanctuary city. We can all see right away that this is completely doomed for failure. And then will he find new jobs for the people he fires?
“So, you are saying that big cities that are sanctuary cities that have a big airport, they might lose their customs?” said Baier. “I’m going to be forced to make tough decisions,” said Mullin, also noting that this could serve as retaliation for cities whose lawmakers have obstructed funding for DHS in the standoff over ICE reforms. Mullin’s threat here was met with instant outrage on social media, with experts pointing out he doesn’t actually have the authority to do this.
Nope. Who has the authority to do this is unknown at this time. It would require some digging. And if he even thinks about firing TSA workers, he will be up to his ears in alligators in no time, and popcorn will be popping for that event. He might get gnawed on a bit – figuratively speaking, of course. TSA is ridiculous. Yet we can’t wish job loss on them. That’s uncool. Plus, he said the quiet part out loud – retaliation.
“In case you [were] wondering if he wasn’t going to be a complete corrupt partisan official like Noem,” wrote David J. Bier, Director of Immigration Studies for the libertarian Cato Institute. //// “There is no statutory authority allowing those resources to be withheld by the feds,” wrote congressional reporter Jamie Dupree.
“Courts have ruled multiple times against such Trump Administration efforts to punish ‘sanctuary’ cities.” //// “These people are absolutely nuts,” Thomas Kennedy, a policy analyst at the Florida Immigrant Coalition, posted on X. “They are willing to nuke the economy of large metropolitan centers for a political agenda repulsive to 70+ percent of the population.”
There is also popcorn on standby for the first time he gets slapped down in court. That’s something to look forward to and is highly likely to happen at some point. With nonsense like this, it may be sooner than we think. He’s even more of an imbecile than Noem was. He did not pay one iota of attention to everything that’s happened with ICE out in public. We don’t know what goes on behind those doors. One of these days, we’ll find out. That’s another mess waiting to happen. Trump will love him because he’s a white male, and he will obviously continue with the same things that Noem started. Trump being happy is the big thing.
