We should have no sympathy for this man whatsoever. This is a “you made your bed, now lie on it”. Backpedal backpedal backpedal. No, “we’re misinterpreting” what he said. Nope. So, why did he wait until New Year’s Eve to put out the Jack Smith testimony and video? That would be one gigantic CYA attempt. It didn’t work. We were watching and waiting. We grabbed the testimony and video. Too bad, so (not) sad for him. From the Empty Wheel blog, via, and with thanks to, Raw Story:

MAGA Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) tried to pull a fast one this week by releasing explosive Jack Smith deposition materials on New Year’s Eve, a national security reporter wrote Thursday. Smith’s closed-door House Judiciary testimony mainly underscored that he viewed his criminal cases against President Donald Trump as fact-driven, apolitical, and that he still believes the evidence would have produced convictions at trial.

Yup, we were watching. Many of us (including me) grabbed at least part of it in a PDF. It’s fascinating. And Jim Jordan’s obvious delay tactics aren’t working, at least for the smarter half of the country. Nice try for Jim. And it failed.

Marcy Wheeler wrote on her Empty Wheel blog that Jordan tried to “bury” the deposition and his own “cowardice” in a “cowardlyNew Year’s Eve document dump. She pointed to a portion of the transcript in which Jordan asked about why he had obtained subpoenas for the phone records of members of Congress, including Jordan’s toll records.

Smith said he felt Jordan’s phone records were crucial because the GOP firebrand called the White House on Jan. 6 while scared out of his mind.

Apparently, it’s not “manly” enough to admit you were scared. IMNSHO, *anyone* could be frightened and rightfully so! There was a huge *mob* attacking the Capitol!  Good grief, run for the hills! That was one scary day! Why he just couldn’t come right out and say he was terrified, well, who knows? Maybe he thought it would hurt his image. Well, releasing the transcript and video has “hurt” his “image”. Tsk tsk.

“And what I recall was [Mark] Meadows stating that ‘I’ve never seen Jim Jordan scared of anything,’ and the fact that we were in this different situation now where people were scared really made it clear that what was going on at the Capitol could not be mistaken for anything other than what it was,” Smith said.

The phone records proved Jordan actually made the call and documented exactly when it happened, providing what Smith called “extremely probativeevidence for his case.

WHAM. There you go. It was proof of the assault on the Capitol and that there was a mob entering the building to “stop the steal” and deny that Biden won the free and fair election. They wanted to stop the Congressional vote-counting and keep former President Biden out of the office. Any one of us who had been there would be scared, too. Is that such a hard thing to say? I was scared! There was a mob in the Capitol! Is that *really* such a hard thing to say?

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money, especially around the holidays. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. The stupid republicans haven’t just created the evidence file against Trump for the next administration.

They’ve gift-wrapped it and tied a nice shiny bow in a ribbon of crystal clear evidence of their own malfeasance.

Thank you Gym, and your callow shallow colleagues.

    • I get flamed for supporting Massie but he has become quite the firebrand in Getting Things Done. He’ll be missed. Republicans should run for the hills for the midterms coming up[. I *firmly* believe there WILL BE midterm elections, one way or another. A lot of those people will be hit by some hard questions. And they should pay for blindly supporting Trump. They might not have answers for some things (read: ACA subsidies) and I am mean because I am hoping for a complete collapse.

      • When everything Dumbty did the first time around didn’t stop them from voting for him again, it will probably take a complete collapse this time to stop his fascist regime.

  2. As Jack Smith explained, phone logs provide three bits of data: who you rang, what time you rang, and how long the call lasted.
And Jordan didn’t ask the questions about call logs himself; he had a staffer do it for him. Being revealed as being scared is the least of his concerns. You see, Smith at that time was talking about Dumbty’s co-conspirators, and he mentioned Gym by name, meaning Smith knew he was involved in the Jan 6 plot (he was) and, what’s more, they had enough evidence to convict him.
Had Smith’s trials not been scuppered by the treacherous justices on the Supreme Court, Gym Jordan would have been in the next group to be indicted and tried.
