Many people must have thought the same thing. Word has come out about something we were wondering about. It’s true. It’s goddamn *true*. How could they do this? Good gods. It’s not like an in-and-out for Maduro and his wife. This involved quite a chunk of the Armed Forces. And for what? Well, now we know, and actions make a lot more sense, if stupidity and inanity make sense. Thank you, Raw Story:
A senior Trump administration official made a stunning claim Sunday regarding the U.S. war against Iran, telling Zeteo’s Asawin Suebsaeng that the conflict not only began without “real” direction, but that it may very well come back to bite the administration later this year. “It was doomed from the very start,” the senior Trump official told Zeteo, speaking on the condition of anonymity. “We went in with no real mission, and we all knew that. Now we have to spend the next five months hoping voters don’t b—-slap us for it.”
How often have I been asking this question? Was there a plan before the military started bombing things? NOPE. None. Zip. Zero. Nada. THERE WAS NO PLAN. No, folks, I am not arrogant enough to say I asked it first. I assure you I’m very rarely arrogant. About a gazillion people probably asked the same thing. But it’s nice to know I wasn’t nutso, asking about the plan. Plus, oh, yes, the voters are going to slap them. It’s already started. Remember, it may start with one person somewhere and grow from there. Anger against an illegal war we lost is just getting started.
Launched in late February, Trump’s war against Iran began with a number of different objectives. Trump explicitly called for regime change just moments after launching his surprise attack on Iran. He’s also claimed the top war objective has been to ensure Iran does not have the capability to create a nuclear weapon.
We just fluffed on those two. The head of the regime was killed. His son inherited. He’s worse. Well done. They’ve been arguing about uranium, not a nuclear weapon. Now, yes, the two go hand in hand, but that is not necessarily what Iran intends to do with their uranium. It’s going to take them a long damn time to build a nuclear weapon because, as we’ve been told, it is not that simple. They don’t have any idea how to build one. Trump’s reasons failed. Neither one was accomplished.
And yet, despite Trump’s list of war objectives, his top officials – at least, according to the senior Trump official who spoke with Zeteo – were largely directionless in the early days of the war. Another U.S. official told Zeteo that they and their colleagues knew almost immediately that the war would end in failure. “It made me say: We lost. That’s it. And the war had only just begun,” the official told Zeteo, also speaking on the condition of anonymity. “I don’t care if you were for or against this thing; if you’re the commander-in-chief, if you go to war, you can’t start thinking about cutting and running that early.”
The whole war has been a waste of time and money. We learned about the money being spent almost right away. We used up billions of dollars on many things, and we lost 13 service members who shouldn’t have died. That’s the worst part. They were unprotected when Iran started hitting our bases in other Middle Eastern countries. This goes right along with no plan. And the Strait of Hormuz is closed off. All things that would have been obvious if someone had planned it. So now I’ll just have to let it go. There was no plan.
See you tomorrow!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
