This was passed along to me and I think it’s a damn good place to start for my posting tonight. We have some fantastic wins to talk about! I am so, so pleased. Let’s get right to it, shall we? Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs vetoed three anti-transgender bills that had cleared the state’s Republican controlled legislature. She absolutely just spanked the legislature and told them to grow up and actually do their JOBS for the people of Arizona. Well, go, Governor Hobbs! And Go, Katie! I bet she wouldn’t mind that, right? So, on to an example.
Governor Hobbs, vetoing the bill, issued the following statement: “Today, I vetoed House Bill 2438. This bill will not lower costs, will not increase opportunity, and will not enhance security or freedom for Arizona. I encourage the Legislature to focus on real issues that matter and impact people’s everyday lives.”
But wait, there’s more!
Earlier this year, Hobbs also vetoed House Bill 2062, one of the most sweeping anti-transgender proposals introduced in the state. The legislation would have effectively erased transgender people from legal recognition in Arizona. Had it become law, it likely would have triggered bans on gender marker changes for driver’s licenses, rolled back existing nondiscrimination protections, and set the stage for broader legal exclusions.
The governor has long been an LGBTQ+ ally and believes that they deserve their chances, too!
While Republicans in Arizona have remained unified in their push to pass anti-transgender legislation, Gov. Katie Hobbs has consistently used her veto power to halt those efforts at the finish line. Since taking office, she has positioned herself as a final line of defense against a legislative agenda aimed squarely at rolling back LGBTQ+ rights. And this year, none of those bills will become law: Republicans do not have the votes necessary to override her vetoes.
How about THEM apples? She’s doing the opposite of what the rest of the country seems to be doing. She is an example that others should follow, and I wish there were more like her. I know our governor certainly isn’t! So, now we’re about to dive into the other item I wanted to bring to your attention. This time, it’s from, of all places, Florida! We are hearing from Melissa Goset of GO Mag.
In this political climate where LGBTQ+ rights often feel like they’re under siege, Florida just delivered a surprising and hard-fought win for our community. In a stunning turn during the 2025 legislative session on Friday, not a single one of the proposed anti-LGBTQ+ bills made it into law. Florida has made national headlines over the last few years for many reasons, one major one being their “Don’t Say Gay (or Trans)” law, so this outcome is very unexpected. It’s a testament to the power of persistence, community organizing, and collective resistance.
Equality Florida, the state’s leading LGBTQ+ advocacy group, quickly recognized the significance.“Not a single bill passed,” said Executive Director Nadine Smith, whose tireless leadership helped galvanize opposition to over a dozen pieces of legislation targeting the queer and trans community of Florida. It’s not an overstatement to call this a landmark moment. After years of regressive policy wins, May 02, 2025, marked a shift in momentum.
In total, four anti-LGBTQ+ affirming bills failed to move forward.
So. This may not exactly be politics, although it really is, considering we have Governor Hobbs in one, and d*ckwad Ron DeSatan in Florida. I’m just so pleased to give PolitiZoom something positive when we have such rampant stupidity going on with our sorry excuse for a president. I hope they can revive the Washington case, at least, when this SOB gets out of the top position in the US because I think that this time, FINALLY, there are many of us who will not let this shizzle happen again!
Trump got his get out of jail free card. We should just let him play golf all the time and keep him from the White House so we don’t have any more disastrous decisions like tariffs! What the hell needs to be done for him to realize this is a disaster??!! Probably nothing will, but there’s nothing wrong with dreaming… ok, *ahem*, got a little off course there, but still! Thanks for sticking with me!

Zoomers, we are always in need of donations. It’s been an especially rough month, and my own health has not been great these past few weeks, which just adds to the frustration. Anything you can spare will be immensely appreciated. And thank you to all who have donated generously already. Ursula
