I have no reason to think that this picture has been photoshopped because real photos from Mar-a-Lago show up all the time. El Caudillo has plenty of enemies in his midst, scattered amongst his worshippers, and everybody carries a camera nowadays. We’re all Cecil B. DeMille and Trump is always ready for his close up. He lives for nothing else. Trump is seated with allies here. Or perhaps they’re just billionaires trying to make sure that the other billionaires don’t get ahead of them in line. We are definitely seeing the word *oligarchy* spring to life here, at least in a manner not seen since Medieval times.

No, I don’t know why Musk is wearing a bomber jacket to a business meeting, especially since it’s probably 65 degrees or more when this photo was taken. But I don’t know why he was carrying his small son on his shoulders the other day, either. Elon might be giving Nancy Mace a run for the money in the attention whore department. Maybe we should take a poll, which one can win that contest? I’ll put my money on Elmo. Mace hasn’t been seen jumping up and down on stage with Trump, but then that might be because she hasn’t been given the opportunity.

Back to Trump and the wine glass, you tell me. That’s clearly a glass of wine sitting in front of him. Supposedly Trump doesn’t drink at all, never has. And maybe that’s true. Maybe he prefers drugs. Or, maybe in the comfort of his own home he has a glass of wine once in a while. Considering Trump’s palate with respect to food, I doubt that he knows a Chateau Margaux from a Cheateau Safeway.
Or, maybe that’s grape kool-aide, so Don Don can look like an adult when he’s with the other billionaires. Who knows? What we do know is that pro-Trump high school students felt empowered by his election to demonstrate with racist memes.
I attend a school that fits well into Middle American Republicanism in the Northeast. I won’t repeat the many things I’ve heard in class and the halls that would be classified as hate. But this isn’t limited to my school, my region, or even the deep red states where racism has always been front and center.
The Los Angeles Times reported this week that “pro-Trump students at Beverly Hills High School held two days of what the [school] district termed “spirited demonstrations” to celebrate the election results. Boisterous students chanted pro-Trump slogans and carried flags mounted on poles throughout the school — but some Black students said racial slurs and racist rhetoric were used. The rallying students knocked on and tried to open the door of the classroom where the Black Students Union was meeting, which caused some of the teens and the teacher in the room to fear for their safety.”
The LATimes continued, referring to a student-run mock election that Trump narrowly won:
“Trump supporters at the school rallied rowdily in courtyards and hallways, shouting pro-Trump slogans as they rushed around the school. The rallies made many students who don’t support the former president feel uncomfortable.
“Students were seen screaming profanity throughout the two rallies and were aggressive to those with opposing views. Everyone has the right to express their political views, but countless students and teachers felt unsafe with the crowd’s mob-like behavior,” wrote the editors of Highlights, the high school’s student-run publication.
When Trump won in 2016 the Nazis and the KKK were marching in the streets and the Southern Poverty Law Center reported a spike in hate crimes. It will be useful to monitor those statistics this time out.
Trump represents the deranged id of America. Unfortunately, the people who voted for him on the basis of mass deportation and a golden age are not going to enjoy the price spikes and inflation soon to come. But hey, they wouldn’t listen. They who cannot listen and learn have to learn the hard way.

The story about the school is one of the reasons why I no longer believe that the “younger generation”–the one that’s grown up with the near-daily routine of school shootings and drills to know how to deal with a school shooting–is going to be any better than the old fogeys.
When the far right was claiming that gays were “grooming the kids,” it should’ve been thoroughly understood for what was actually going on: The far right was grooming kids to become racist little MAGAts (or maggots as the case may be–I just feel that maggots don’t deserve to be so vilified as they can and do serve a function in the ecosystem). As we all know, when the far right makes an accusation, it’s a pretty clear sign that they’re doing the very same thing. (Look at Nancy Mace. She’s so concerned about the safety of girls and women from trans girls and women yet she didn’t really seem too bothered at Matt Gaetz’s alleged crimes. Hell, she voted to block releasing the Ethics investigation report.)
I’m sorry to disagree but I think that is cola in the glass, not wine. It looks brown, not burgundy, to me. And I think there might be ice in that glass. I do know, from my catering days, in that soda can on the table would be considered tacky and most of a soda can fit in one of those glasses. I hope I haven’t been rude with for my contradictory opinion and apologize if so. Nonetheless I really do think it’s Diet Coke in that glass, not red wine.
It looks like a cola to me, too.
