This is lame, even for ICE. They took someone out of their house for a lame excuse. Fortunately, the person got home unharmed. This is even more of the “check your facts first” raids that they have made. Well, they could have said it was an arrest of this person. Not exactly sure, as that part wasn’t covered. So our salute to dumbass-ery for today is right below. Thanks, Raw Story:

A Department of Homeland Security official seemed to back herself into an “extremely implausible” corner over a recent immigration arrest, according to analysts. Over the weekend, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials conducted a raid in St. Paul, Minnesota, where they detained a U.S. citizen, ChongLy ThaoVideo shows officers taking Thao, wearing just his underwear, with a blanket draped over him as officers took him from his home. Thao was later returned to his home and was not charged with any crimes, according to reports.

Winter in Minneapolis, last I looked. It’s supposed to snow in Georgia this weekend, and it’s a southern state. That’s a comparison for you. They brought him out in his underwear and with a blanket wrapped around him. As mentioned, lame. Geez, folks, couldn’t you have let him get dressed, at least? If they were already *in* the house, they could have given him a couple of minutes to put on appropriate clothes. From the pictures found via a Google search, he wouldn’t be able to fight his way out or duck and run. Really, ICE?

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin posted a lengthy explanation on X, where she said the agency was looking for two convicted sex criminals at the address. Thao’s family forcefully pushed back on those assertions in a statement and accused DHS of lying about their family member.

Yes, they’re doing the Trump thing. They *never* screw up *cough* so it’s deny, deny, deny. Obfuscate, babble, misdirect, and so forth. The ‘reason’ was total nonsense. They embarrassed themselves because they were caught. It’s stupid. Plus, the agents escorting him out didn’t have their faces covered, which was a stunning change from the usual ICE goons. They were even apparently being gentle with the man. Again, a change from the usual ICE brutes. They’re probably already being doxed, which is a bad thing for someone, but they’re working for ICE. So.

Sam Stein, managing editor of The Bulwark, and Tim Miller, host of “The Bulwark Podcast,” discussed McLaughlin’s comments in a new reaction video for “Bulwark Takes” on Monday night. “I just want to be straight about Tricia McGlaughlin. She has been caught lying so many times … that it’s irresponsible to take what she says seriously,” Stein said. You just can’t do it. And so you shouldn’t.”

Miller added that he was surprised McLaughlin would issue such an explanation. “I guess it’s possible that three 80-year-old young men all live in the same home and two of them are sex offenders and one is not,” Miller said. “But that seems extremely implausible to me.” “You can’t find the people that you’re looking for, but you’ve successfully detained many people who have done nothing wrong and are citizens,” Miller added. “Not exactly batting a thousand there.”

WHAM. They are full of screwups, and it started a long time ago. So no matter if they’re a good person working for ICE or a nasty person working for ICE, well, you’re working for ICE. There has to be a better way than this snatch-and-grab thing. How many people do they have who are *actual* criminals? It’s likely a *very* small number. But Trump says, Gnome says, Miller says, deport, deport, deport, which leads to many citizens or protected immigrants or immigrants trying to become legal with their court hearings, getting grabbed and disappearing into the bowels of we know not what, but it’s a high probability it’s hell. It shouldn’t be that way.

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. I can’t give specifics, but I saw some stats that the majority, like 2/3 of the people ICE has detained have no criminal records. According to repubs, if you enter the US illegally, you are a criminal. Nevermind, that doing so is actually a misdemeanor. And the people who are trying to do it the “right legal way” by going to their court hearings are being apprehended as well.
