So far, pretty much everything he’s tried to do is just another faceplant. We could all go on and on about bringing the top military leaders to Quantico for his cocky bantam rooster speech that was supposed to generate excitement and bring back the “machismo”, but was spectacularly unimpressive. He was talking to *true* military officers, not his “Secretary of War” cowflops self. *They* know what they’re doing.
Then there’s the insistence that his wife comes with him everywhere, including questioning by a Senate committee, and can’t forget SignalGate I and II. She was involved in that, too. This guy has the intelligence of a gnat, and he needs to be pensioned off somewhere so he can drink himself under. And now, here’s the latest inanity. From Raw Story:
President Donald Trump’s Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, has threatened to call up Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) into active military service again, just so he can court-martial him — but even if he goes through with this plan, it is likely to backfire spectacularly, some observers warned on Monday. Kelly is one of six Democratic lawmakers from a military background who made a joint video reminding active servicemembers that if they are given illegal orders, like to kill unarmed civilians or take over civilian law enforcement in American cities, they have a duty to refuse those orders. This is clearly outlined in the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
The man knows not of what he speaks. Hell yes, it’s going to backfire. Senator Kelly wasn’t just part of the military – he was also part of NASA. Hegseth has nothing on Mark. Senator Kelly is real. Petey is not. Petey snorts and paws, makes impressive noises, but he’s 2-dimensional. He’s all show and no substance. So he really thinks he can accomplish something by calling the Senator back to active duty? Oh, please. He’s stupid, so he plays himself on TV.
But Hegseth, who now calls his position “Secretary of War” under an executive order Trump signed, would be wise to just let this go, some commenters noted on social media — because to actually try to prosecute him under military law would not just fail, but give Kelly a massive profile and fundraising boost and possibly even position him as a top-tier presidential candidate in 2028. “Alternate headline: Pentagon threatens to make Mark Kelly the first Senator to raise $1 billion for their next election,” wrote Inside Elections’ Jacob Rubashkin. //// Erick Erickson, a longtime conservative commentator, agreed: “Thanks to Pete Hegseth, this guy is going to make so much money this coming year as a fundraiser.”
Ha. That would be something to see! We all would enjoy seeing that happen. (Now, I’m partial to Governor Newsom, but that doesn’t mean Senator Kelly wouldn’t do as well.) And yes, he’ll be making money hand over fist. Hegseth’s posturing is only hurting *himself*, not Senator Kelly. The military can see this. Anyone who’s worked with Mark can see this. But Petey? Pshaw.
Kelly, for his part, posted a defiant response on X himself. “In combat, I had a missile blow up next to my jet and flew through anti-aircraft fire to drop bombs on enemy targets. At NASA, I launched on a rocket, commanded the space shuttle, and was part of the recovery mission that brought home the bodies of my astronaut classmates who died on Columbia. I did all of this in service to this country that I love and has given me so much,” wrote Kelly. “If this is meant to intimidate me and other members of Congress from doing our jobs and holding this administration accountable, it won’t work. I’ve given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies who care more about their own power than protecting the Constitution.”
BOOM. Scorched! This is what Hegseth cannot see. He thinks his “Secretary of War” title makes him a big man. But anyone like Senator Kelly knows better. Petey Boy is full of an attitude he has done nothing to deserve and cannot back up. But damn, wait til our new *democratic* president wins in 2028. He’ll be gone then. Trump won’t admit mistakes and fire him, so we’re stuck with him for now. We will be proud then, and deservedly so, because we will come together and do what needs to be done.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

About Hegseth’s wife being ‘brought along everywhere he goes…’
Are we sure HE is the one causing her to be with him everywhere? With him being SecDef she’s never had it so good. If he gets fired (likely, eventually) her life will go in the crapper right quick. Fox won’t want him back even for his old weekend gig and I doubt Newmax would want him either. No one else in right wing circles with real money to burn and often treat failed GOPers with their version of charity, a decent paying gig in some quiet job where they have no real responsibilities and can’t fuck anything up.
Maybe, just maybe SHE is the one making damned sure she’s right there nearby no matter where he is. Given his rapey nature when he has too many drinks in him she’s there to make sure his security detail gets them the fuck home before he can create another personal life scandal. With all the Epstein stuff in the news the last thing Trump wants is for Hegesth to face accusation of sexual assault.
