One thing and one thing only has Pete Hegseth brought to the office of Secretary of Defense and that is an obsession with image. He’s definitely the only SECDEF with his own makeup studio at the Pentagon, that much is certain. What is this obsession with appearances — especially since he’s been photographed in a giant tub of champagne and drinking from a bottle of champagne on Fox News? Some WaPo photographer is going to manage to top that for unflattering?

Does it get any worse than that? Hegseth lives in a dreamworld where he is able to control everything. And he may be able to keep the press out of his briefings but he cannot keep them out of world events. Plus, Pete seems to forget that not all the reporters in the world are American and he has zero control over them.
Hegseth is a mess. With Kristi Noem gone it’s going to be a tie between him and Pam Bondi to see who ends up being next to go out the door. At least now we know how Trump will do it: he’ll fire the next cabinet member but create some other place for them to go, so that Trump saves face.
