OMG, you just can’t make this up. This is a howler. The worst, and we mean the worst, senatorial candidate in the history of the senate, if not the worst candidate in the history of American politics, period, just got routed in deep red state, Georgia. Or, we should more accurately say, vermillion Georgia, because that’s a shade of purple with a high red content. But that is no bar to future GOP endorsement. Oh, no. Being the joke of the 2022 midterms is the path to GOP benediction, evidently.
Georgia is now a swing state, a situation which has been developing for some time, but the ticket splitting that took place to defeat Herschel Walker has cemented it. It’s a done deal now.
Be that as it may, NRSC Chair, none other than Rick Scott, is oblivious to what occurred last week during the run off. He says Herschel Walker is going to be around for quite some time. He’s a major GOP leader. Oh, Rick, what are you smoking or drinking and can you ship some of it my way? Insider:
GOP Sen. Rick Scott of Florida believes Herschel Walker will “continue to be a leader in our party for years to come” after the former NFL player was defeated in the Georgia Senate runoff.
“Over the last year, I’ve gotten to know Herschel and have seen first-hand the movement he built in his home state,” Scott said in a statement on Wednesday. “Herschel’s story and message inspired millions in Georgia and across the country. While Herschel came up short … I know he will continue to be a leader in our party for years to come.”
Scott, who led the campaign arm to elect GOP senators during the 2022 midterm cycle, stumped with Walker in Georgia throughout the campaign, boosting Walker’s candidacy in making the case for the party’s need to have greater influence over the legislative agenda on Capitol Hill with President Joe Biden in the White House.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!! I am developing a great fondness for Rick Scott. The utterly clumsy way in which he went for Mitch McConnell’s jugular and missed — an act which will cost him dearly one day, mark my words — followed by this. Scott is more clueless than I ever would have believed. It must be from living in the Florida Bubble, which from what I can gather, is a kind of Bermuda Triangle of politics. Things there just don’t work like they do in the rest of the country. It’s some kind of wild, unexplained anomaly.
In any event, I’m not the only one doubled up with laughter over this. Jon Cooper picked up on it.

My guess is that Walker is the GOP’s all purpose Black Candidate. Plug him in wherever you need a step-n-fetchit type. He lives in Texas? No problemo. Send him to Georgia.
I don’t think that is the term rick scott would use.

They are spinning this story like a top.

Please say it’s so. Make him Tim Scott’s running mate since that seems to be the next black guy they have moved on to. They don’t get it

When you hit the bottom of the pan, you have to keep scraping at the dredges. I feel sorry for Walker, in a way. He is being used. I guess he doesn't care.

I think these are glad tidings. Great, let’s hope Rick Scott is right. Let’s hope the GOP keeps Herschel Walker front and center for some time to come. I think he should be considered as Trump’s VP, don’t you? Or DeSantis’ VP, or Stefanik’s VP, whomever is going to stumble out of this unholy mess and whomever ends up on the GOP ticket in 2024, I hope Walker is a part of it.
Herschel Walker is a kryptonite anvil. But they just can’t seem to get it. Fine. Carry on.

Too racist to know how racist they are.
The only movement Walker generated in Georgia was back in the 1970s on the football field as a Heisman winning running back for the state’s flagship university. If not for that GA voters wouldn’t have given him the time of day if they had a crate full of clocks and watches! Hell, his football exploits were the ONLY reason this was a race at all. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again but if you asked folks in that part of the country whether they’d risk the wrath of their God & Jeebus by skipping church to hang out on a football field with the current (or a really “bigly”) star of their state’s flagship COLLEGE football team or go to church they’d have to think long and hard about it.
I wonder what Tim Scott from neighboring SC has to think of all this. Except for the college football star (a long time ago) part he’s everything Walker is not. He’s self-made, having pulled himself up from modest beginnings to get a great education and professional accomplishments. He’s smart, polished and articulate. And best of all for the GOP he’s a genuine (albeit more old-school) conservative who is a black man! He comes across well on TV. If the GOP wants a terrific black guy to front for them with minorities Tim Scott has proven he can do so. So again I say I wonder what he thought of the whole Walker debacle.
Walker was and always will be a caricature candidate – a “See? We don’t see color!” dude who they shoved (are they really clueless enough to do it again?) out there ONLY because he was well known, black and Republican. Here’s what could prove tragic about all this. What if Walker’s spiraling out of control turns into a downward spiral? we already know he’s got a history of playing Russian Roulette. Literally. I hope for his sake that even if those close to him can’t convince him to get help they manage to find/take away all his guns and that no one will loan or sell him one. The dude needs help. So he can quietly live out what’s left of his life away from the spotlight with a chance at peace, at least some days.
To an extent, you do have the see that the Georgia GOP learned a lesson from Illinois’ little debacle back in 2004. That was when the elected GOP candidate for Senate was forced to withdraw over some rather sordid issues that came out after the primary.
Frantically, realizing their only serious contender against the very popular African-American Democratic candidate, Barack Obama, was out of contention, the Illinois GOP scrambled to find a candidate–and they picked Alan Keyes. A man who had absolutely NO ties to Illinois and was, at the time, living in Maryland, but felt it was his “moral obligation” to accept the offer.
At least Walker had SOME ties to Georgia (even if he’s largely ignored the state for the last 30 or so years).
It seems some repubs have gotten whole hog onto the crazy train. As long as TFG is conducting, they are all in. Wow, just wow.
“His home state”? Does scott mean TX where walker actually lives? Cornyn and Cruz will be quite surprised when this “leader” comes after one or the other senate seat. Honestly I don’t see walker staying in GA longer than it takes him to pack his carpet bag.
