You have heard me say before, “there is no low they won’t go,” and here is more proof of the plain truth of that statement. An elder statesman has died and his friends and colleagues gather to mourn him. Barack Obama is giving the eulogy, according to CBS News and of course Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer will be in attendance as well as President and Mrs. Biden. But rather than leave these people be as they salute a fallen comrade, this is what GOPers are doing.

Noah Malgeri is looking to unseat the incumbent congresswoman, Susie Lee, in the third congressional district, which is where I live. This is going to be an ugly race. This House seat and one other are being hotly fought for, as well as one of Nevada’s Senate seats in 2022. Plus, the Democratic Governor, Steve Sisolak, is running for reelection and the clown car of Republican nominees for the gubernatorial nomination will put you in mind of the 2016 GOP presidential primary, to be honest.

Melgeri is pure MAGA. He says COVID was “an intentional act” and that General Milley should be executed, on live television no less. His wife appears at the local school board meetings and spews anti-vaxx drivel. Pure performance art out of the Greene/Gaetz/Gosar school of political theater.

My last congressman was Adam Schiff. I moved here from California’s 28th congressional district, in the San Fernando Valley. People there loved Adam long before his profile rose with the impeachment proceeding(s) against Donald Trump. And he insisted everybody call him Adam, I’m not being presumptuous here. The congressman is a laid back guy, he wanted to know his constituents, unlike other people we could name who hide from them.

My banker, Avo, knew Adam pretty well because the two of them had worked on a project to clean up graffiti in an Armenian neighborhood. He and I used to laugh about the different people that would show up to run against Congressman Schiff and they had no chance. Point being, I’ve lived in a solid blue district for a long time. The gal who holds this Nevada congressional seat now, Susie Lee, has only held it since the 2018 election. This is a very different situation.

Nevada is becoming more blue all the time, so we have to hold the line and God knows we have to hold it against creeps like Malgeri.

I’ll soon do what I haven’t done in years, which is walk into a Republican meeting and ask the candidate what he proposes to do if elected. Believe me, one or two questions and they know that you’re not one of them, that you’re the enemy “come to make trouble” which is how they translate telling the truth and asking questions about the issues that matter.

It used to be fun to play the Democrat From Hell. Anymore, I don’t even know if its safe. I guess I’ll find out, right?

Live coverage of Harry Reid’s funeral starts at 11:00 a.m. PST. The dear man can’t even go to his grave in peace without harassment from MAGA losers, which does make a certain kind of sense. He was the other Harry who gave ’em hell in life.

R.I.P. Senator Reid. Your life made a difference and you will be missed.

  1. I’d go in mock armor made up of kids pink elbow & knee guards with a catchers padded chest plate & a highly colored helmet. U choose the superheroine. I probably would take a marching band baton, with sparkly streamers, just in case. Maybe have a phone playing Nancy Sinatra’s these boots are made for walking…film it. Name it. Spread it.

  2. And, let’s not all forget for a second that if a group of left-wing protestors showed up at the funeral of any right-wing politician (hell, even just “joked around”–to use conservative nutjobs’ favorite defense after spewing venomous bile–about protesting such a funeral), you can damn well be sure that it would be headline news at Fox “News” (not to mention the other nuttier far-right outlets) with *demands* of Democratic politicians to denounce the protests (even though the politicians had no connection to the protests).
But the right-wing? They’ll just spew “freedom of speech” and “freedom of assembly” and “right to protest” as though none of those have any limits.

  3. It’s totally tasteless for them to have even thought about gathering to “protest” a funeral.

I watched the memorial service on CBS. Very nice. I didn’t catch the name of the young man who sang Home Is Nevada at the end. I assume he was a relative of Reid’s. Maybe I’ll find out later. Wonderful eulogy by Obama, as always.

  4. This boggles the mind. A “protest” implies they want soemthing done differently, or soething else done, that that they are protesting. What do they want? Do they want to leave his body above ground? Do they want him cremated? Do they want him alive again (well, no, probably not – although I’d go for that one.) What is it that they want? If they can’t say, it’s not a protest, only a public nuisance.
