Maybe the GOP should just open their ceremonies hereinafter with the Two-Minute Hate. Don’t you think?

I have never seen Americans be warring tribes like this. This is the legacy of Donald Trump. And let me be clear: I am not blaming Trump for this in the least bit. Barack Obama nailed it early on when he said that Trump was the symptom, not the problem itself. No, the problem itself is that fundamentally decent people used to be in politics, on both sides of the aisle. Something awful happened to the GOP. It lost its way, it put Trump at the top of its 2016 ballot and away we went. From the minute that happened, America’s path diverged down a strange walkway and we are in terra incognita as we speak, trying to find our way home again.

The above graph is utterly tasteless and does nothing but encourage tribalism. That this is the official greeting of the GOP on this national holiday is appalling. Not surprising in the least, but appalling all the same.

And did you notice Nixon is now a great president? And is that Calvin Coolidge? Anybody?  They put in Coolidge instead of Teddy Roosevelt? And they shit on Jerry Ford? You know what I think? I think that the people who put this chart together are knuckle dragging troglodytes who don’t know the history of their own party and they just found some old guy because they had a space to fill. Frankly, I’m surprised they didn’t put in Herbert Hoover, what’s the dif?

Richard Nixon is now a “great U.S. president.” He had to resign in disgrace but that’s a minor point if you’re a Republican. That’s good to know.

So, because turnabout is fair play, maybe we should look into some variations on the theme?

No you wait. Give it a couple of months and it will be Water (under the bridge) Gate. Like it was nothing. This will happen before the midterms, I predict.

  1. You will forgive me if I rather rudely point out that “decency” has never had anything to do with the Republican brand from Lincoln’s assassination on. After the Civil War, they became the party of Big Business and Imperialism. Yes, Teddy Roosevelt did great things during this era that ran contrary to this (“busting trusts”, founding the FDA) but he had to fight, blackmail and scrap against his own party to get them done.

Then came the isolationist 1920s with its twin Republican scourges of Prohibition and unchecked free enterprise with a side of heavy corruption by way of the Harding administration. That gave us the Great Depression, which we were a looong time digging our way out of.

Then, of course, came the final defection of the Dixiecrats in the 1960s and the Republicans taking them in. From such poisonous roots springs Nixon, Reagan, both Bushes and Trump, complete with the horrors they started or enabled.

There has never been “decency” nor “nobility” to this party. It’s just the MAGA Maggots’ spiritual ancestors had a bigger vocabulary and stick to get what they wanted.

  2. I seen an interesting piece of trivia the other day. 96% of the 42 million jobs added since 1988 were added under democratic presidents. I really thought that was odd given the rhetoric of the republicans.

  3. So glad you created that rebuttal and included Lincoln and Eisenhower, and even Teddy, though some of his acts were kinda edgy. I poste this as a response this morning to another article.
My summary only scratches the surface on them, however.
LINCOLN: honorable, generally moral man, caught up in the frenzy of his time. Best thing, emancipated the slaves.
HARDING: crooked, deep in the Teapot Dome scandal, womanizer, alcoholic, considered most corrupt administration in history at the time (Encl. Brittanica) Detailsavailable.
EISENHOWER: Honorable man, savvy warrior, warned of economic corruption to come.
NIXON: Paranoid, had enemies list, practically useless in office, Deeply involved in the Watergate Scandal, resigned in disgrace to avoid impeachment.
REAGAN: actor seriously miscast as president, imposed tax on Social Security, contrary to the creation of the program, brough about the scam called trickle-down economics, pushed deregulation and creation of the existing oligarchy, Iran-Contra Scandal, generally useless as a president, though talked a good line.
BUSH I: Useless, out of touch with economic realith, one teerm- thenk God.
BUSH II: Ran to times elected legitimately only once. Useless, silly, relied on the worst of the worst to run the country (Cheney, Wolff, Rumsfeld), engaged in scandalous trickery to get into a war in Iraq after an attack on the World Trade center under suspiciously unexplained circumstances, even day. Created the worst recession since the Great Depression.
TRUMP: never won an election from voters, presided over the worst four years of any American president, rrestored bigotry, hate, and white supremacy as the social norms, illegally profited from his time in office, Tried to blackmail foreign leaders to achieve ends, suspiciously close to world’s worst dictators, twice impeached and saved only by a power-mad corrupt senate majority, actively promoted sedition and insurrection, and remains under serious investigation at federal and state levels for criminal activity of type associated with organized crime. Recently complimente Putin as “savvy” to invade Ukraine.
