I have to admit, I’ve gone through a lot of scenarios about the reaction to a possible indictment and arrest of Trump, but this one had not occurred to me, probably because it is so beyond what is possible. Still, then I thought, “When has ‘what is possible’ ever bothered Trump?” So, I had to add another possible scenario, onE proposed by seemingly mentally-unstable Rep. Claudia Tenney, who believes all of this will “blow over” because Trump simply won’t show up, somewhat similar to the first impeachment when McConnell said that there would be no evidence in Trump’s Senate “trial.” (Thus no trial.)

There is one problem with her theory, but we’ll get to that. Let’s let her set it out. From Joe My God:

It’s really the worst of our system on display here, and it’s unfortunate. Still, I think this is all going to blow over because I don’t see any way that they’re actually going to get Donald Trump to appear in a court for sentencing or – I mean for indictment or for any type of charge. I think, again, this is grandstanding.” – GOP Rep. Claudia Tenney, speaking today on Newsmax. Trump’s lawyer has already said that he would cooperate if indicted. Tenney last appeared on JMG when she added “LOL” to a meme showing Paul Pelosi being beaten with a hammer.

Well, there is a bit of a problem in that scenario: it is almost certain that the Manhattan D.A. will reach out to Trump’s camp and try to arrange a low-key, backdoor arraignment. Additionally, judges have a lot of power to issue warrants and contempt of court issues. So, suppose Trump is given the option to come in and simply do it quietly with no perp walk and rejects it. In that case, he forces the prosecutors to move for an arrest warrant, and they’ll have to knock on the door at Mar-a-Lago, and the Secret Service isn’t going to get in the way of a judicial warrant.

But even more importantly, the GOP thinks that a possible arrest will help Trump politically. They see it as an overreach, and he’ll be seen as a victim. (That’s why it’s important to charge him with financial crimes, too – if possible.) If Trump starts fighting outside the system, that robs him of a lot of the sympathy. There will be less sympathy if Trump is indicted in Georgia. He is on the phone, taped in that one.

We will see, but I doubt it will “blow over.” Though, Trump simply refusing to show up is within the realm of possibility.

  1. This woman is an idiot. Not showing up for arraignment almost always results in a bench warrant and pre-trial detention. TFG isn’t likely to risk that, plus he always has the delay, delay, delay tactic.

  2. It won’t “blow over” but it could blow up if trump ignores an indictment order and holes up at Mar-a-Lago. Bragg would file a state extradition request and would also notify law enforcement agencies in other states of his fugitive status. The mango misfit could be arrested the minute he deplanes outside Florida and be transferred to authorities in New York, where it would be a short hop to a hard landing at Ricker’s Island. Let’s hope he digs in, because this would be good for at least two super jumbo bags of popcorn.

  3. I’ll bet a lot of people are kicking themselves.
Who knew that just blowing off an arraignment was even an option?
And if the send you to prison, can you just not go?

    • Likely one of the “law schools” like liberty u, and posers like that. Some days I think law degrees come from a box of cereal F.F.S.

      • Not to defend her legal prowess but her Wiki article says she got her JD from the University of Cincinnati’s Law School.
That’s a tad bit better than Liberty University or “posers like that.”

  4. I thought the Nazis were going to surround the Palace of their King in exile and kill any cops trying to take Putin’s boy in. Of course only a dozen would showup and half of them would be looking for JFK jr. The other half would be looking for him up around Jacksonville.

  5. Isn’t there some sort of legal precedent for dealing with people who don’t show up?

    Centuries of it.

Just arrest him and lock him up.

  6. Reminds me of a scene in O Brother Where Art Thou!!? As they’re riding along after Delmar and Pete were ‘washed by the blood’,(in a muddy river), Delmar claimed he was cleansed for everything he’d ever done wrong. Evertte,(George Clooney), remarked, you might’ve squared things with the lord, but the state of Mississippi is a little more hardassed. Trump is Delmar with a lump of coal for a heart.
