There is no low they won’t go. That used to be true of Donald Trump and his campaign but now it’s true of right-wingnuttia in general. And in all truth, this isn’t the least bit surprising. Last year a new holocaust denial conspiracy theory came out. So it’s six of one, half dozen of the other. Either you don’t really believe that the holocaust took place, in which case it’s just a meme that the Jews have going and so this is a meme of a meme, or, you believe it did take place — but you’re utterly clueless as to the gravity of the event. And so it’s still a meme.

That is right-wing mentality these days, the product of a failed school system, a bread and circus mentality, and a counter culture of disinformation news services spreading lies.

This is indicative of Instagram taking some action, and that’s a good sign, but it doesn’t address the real issue, which is that there is colossal ignorance in this country and the ordinary person is following the lead of authority figures like Donald Trump, Marjorie Taylor Greene and the lot of them. That’s where it starts. As Anthony Scaramucci noted, “the fish rots from the head down.” That’s what the problem is.

Now this is horrifying for how tasteless it is, but there is the worse horror, that people who believe COVID-19 isn’t real are dying. You probably read the post here on Rick Wiles, the pastor who declaimed he would “never” get vaccinated — and who was hospitalized with coronavirus yesterday.

Here’s another.

They’re dropping like flies. They’re killing themselves with their own arrogance. It absolutely boggles the mind, but still it goes on. Disease is supposed to be one means of thinning out the population, war and famine being others. I guess you can add willful stupidity to the list.

This is the first time in history that a lethal disease has been diagnosed and people have debated whether it existed in the first place, or whether they should take a medication for it.

  1. The ignorance is even worse than you describe. I read an article this morning about how a third of Americans don’t believe it was worth it to fight in WWII! Too many people forget (if they ever knew) how prior to Pearl Harbor the isolationists fought tooth and nail against FDR’s every attempt to aid England and Europe as the Nazi’s took it over. The lack of education over the past four decades or so, an intentional thing on conservative’s part combined with most of the generation who fought in WWII now being dead has put us at a perilous point. Especially in an era where devastating attacks (against power grids, GASOLINE PIPELINES and natural gas ones too) can do appalling damage due to cyber warfare.

This ole jarhead hates the very concept of war. But sometimes it’s the best and only option amongst a shitty set of options. Sadly, on this weekend set aside those who gave all to win and preserve the freedoms we have, a third of Americans agree with their (orange) turd emperor that those men and women who gave so much were “suckers and losers.”

    • My 5 uncles fought in WW2. My dad was a Korean war vet. My other uncle was in Vietnam as a green beret, & was wounded multiple times. They are all dead now, but as a navy vet myself, I abhor these ignorant muthers, who enjoy the benefits of democracy, but take their undeserved freedom, & use it to piss on the constitution. In addition, they dishonor all the Jewish people by using the symbols of fascism to justify their ignorance & narcissism. I better not see one or someone’s feelings will get stomped on like they insulted the Hell’s Angels.

      • My p.o.s. grandfather bought his way out of the Army during WWI (a not uncommon thing back then) but both his children served in WWII. My aunt was a WAC and my dad served in WWII (Air Corps – bombers) and was badly wounded. He hid the scars from his wounds and surgeries for the rest of his life – even wore a t-shirt in the bathtub in case I came in. Like so many of his generation and others, there were not only physical wounds but psychological ones that didn’t always heal. It would be long after his death (I was 23 – he was 57 when he died of cancer) before I could grasp with a level of meaningful understanding what haunted him. There were few conversations, and fairly cryptic at that. I wouldn’t serve myself (Marines) until three years after he died. I suppose given the wounds he suffered, even though they healed (enough he might have participated in a truly unthinkable action had Japan not surrendered which is what I think haunted him the most) he didn’t get called up for Korea.

I could have gotten through life without serving, but chose to do so. And I was crushed that given all that so many who gave so much more than I did wound up defending a country that would have a major political Party even nominate someone like Donald fucking Trump, much less elect him even if it took the vestigial organ of the Electoral College to get him into the WH. The fact that over sixty million people would vote for someone so manifestly unfit in every way for local office, much less for the Presidency took my faith in my country, a faith that despite our flaws and sometimes enormous & tragic fuckups away. The fact that last fall over seventy million people voted for him again even though he was every bit as bad, and even worse than we feared he would be is depressing in a way I can’t describe, and will never be able to do so if I had the literary gifts of Shakespeare.

I have hope that we aren’t beyond redemption. But we will never again hold the position in the world we once did, leading the free world and serving as hope for people in countries that yearned to be free. We got a pass with Bush 43 by electing and re-electing Obama by comfortable margins each time. But then we blew it by allowing Trump to snatch the Presidency. And despite Biden getting seven million MORE votes his EC margin was the same as Trump’s who lost the popular vote by three million! Add in what’s going on in so many states to not only restrict voting but allow gerrymandered GOP legislatures to override vote totals in future elections and it’s no wonder why the world (which is paying close attention) knows that for at least a generation we are one Presidential election away from another Trump. Or worse. Someone as bad as Trump but with political skill and knowledge of how to work the levers of power in DC.

I haven’t given up hope, but too often I find myself looking hard and digging deep to sustain some measure of it.

        • I have similar misgivings. None of my family ever talked about the wars they were in, although, from my viewpoint, they were heros. Hell, my dad died in 1983, & I knew he was in the air force for 17years, but only learned he was a Korean vet last year when I noticed a bronze grave marker sitting behind my sister’s house from the US military. Evidently my mom had kept it in a closet all these years. All my uncles lived through the war in Europe & the pacific, & not a damn one ever said a word. Quite the contrast with the ‘look at me’ culture we have now. May be the reason I fear we have lost the best among us, & can’t even muster the spine to hold Trump & his cult accountable. We have grown soft, lazy & stupid. Ripe for what’s going on.

    • To be brutally fair, the case for fighting, just, morally sound wars has been considerably weakened by most of the military entanglements that the Pentagon has indulged in since WW2.

      • There is nothing about our culture that is morally sound when we don’t teach real history of European conquest, genocides, & slavery of indigenous people. EVERYTHING has been built on innocent blood, immorally shed by conquest.

    • Denis, you are right. My dad served in wwii and beyond, and his memory is dear to me. It really happened. I also have jewish ancestors. It really happened. Really.
