I wasn’t aware of the official name of this song – The 59th Street Bridge Song – until I went looking for it. I just knew it as Feeling Groovy and that’s exactly the feeling the Furkids and I wanted for this weekend.

But first I asked the Furkids if they knew the word groovy. The older ones remembered it – the elephants in particular as they started swaying in time to the music captured in their memories. Then, as so often happens on these occasions, all the young ones, who loved the sound of the word – wanted to hear the song their neliphants remembered. It was love at first listen!

So here we are with a jukebox primed with 1960s coins (no idea where they got these but I apologise if any are missing from your coin collections). Just press play then scroll down to the illustrated lyrics and sing along!

The Furkids love the frothy milkshakes at ko-fi.com/furkids. They want you to know they love licking up their frothy moustaches! You can treat them to their favourite frothies for $3/€3/£3. All proceeds go towards the new second-hand desk fund, You all helped to raise enough for the new refurbished computer which will be ready for pickup next Friday – yay!  Our heartfelt thanks to all contributors. 💝 💖 💝

  1. I’ved loved this song since I was a youngster. Sometimes when I’m feeling blue I remember it and cue it up on YouTube. It helps. It’s also nice to listen to when feeling good. There’s countless good times I’ve had in all sorts of places where it’s popped into my head. Listening to this while looking at the pics of critters was truly delightful.
    (back in the 1960s I actually got a chance to see them in concert. My oldest sister and her best friend got hold of a small batch of tickets for a concert over at SIU-Carbondale. At the last minute someone that was going to be part of the group cancelled. Lucky me although I didn’t realize how much at the time. “Simon & Garfunkklle” I thought? What a stupid name for a group! But they did make quite a pair. Too bad they didn’t stick together longer)

  2. {{{Michelle}}} Always loved this song. I still sing it when the spirit moves. Used to sing it to my sons when they were little. Thank you and the Furkids for the memories. Healing Energy & skritches & moar {{{HUGS}}}

  3. 🤣 The CODA is me and hubby…every night! “Are you still awake?” “Yah, keep it playing!” “You sure?” “Mnflubah…” Well, wadda ya expect under a warm blue binky?!

    • This is so wonderful. Right from the start, the fox got me. Made me smile. I love the song choice. I couldn’t help but rock to the music. I had to watch it over again.

  5. I love the song. My college friends all played guitars. I…did not.
    I was a folk fan. It began with Peter, Paul and Mary and the Clancys, Wolfe Tones etc all. Explains why the one story F&SF bought was about a woman avenging her husband’s death in the Black and Tan War.

    Baez, Dylan,Judy Collins…I much preferred them to rock.

    My favorite band is Horslips, the founders of Celtic Rock. Tull came later.
