And boy, does she! It seems that she’s overworked and probably underpaid. She was asked a question in court, and her reply shocked *everyone*. This came out of the blue and tells us what it’s like up in Minneapolis. Dadgum. If watching this is bad, trying to do the job of a prosecutor is even worse. With appreciation to Raw Story:

An assistant U.S. attorney in the Trump administration made an admission to a Minnesota federal judge in open court on Tuesday that left legal experts open-mouthed. According to FOX9’s Paul Blume, when U.S. District Judge Jerry Blackwell pressed DOJ lawyer Julie Le why the Trump administration, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, are ignoring so many court orders, Le replied that “the system sucks, this job sucks” — and went on to ask Blackwell to hold her in contempt of court, just so she could get 24 hours of sleep after having to argue dozens upon dozens of habeas cases in recent weeks.

Oof. Okay, yes, she’s nominally working for the DoJ, but damn, all, that shows us a picture we hadn’t seen. ICE goons are flooding the courts with snatch-and-grab cases, all of which must be processed in court, with both sides present. The prosecutors must be drowning, because we can bet there aren’t that many of them. Whether the DoJ can bring in more people is unknown at this time. They *need* to, it seems, but *will* they?

This type of confession from a federal prosecutor gobsmacked attorneys on social media, who remarked that this sort of thing never happens. “I hear these types of expressed sentiments from DOJ attorneys all the time,” wrote national security attorney Mark S. Zaid on X. “Not in open court, of course, but in private conversations, which is still unbelievable.”

The reactions say a lot. Attorneys are stunned that one of ‘their own’ has gotten to that point. To *ask* to be held in contempt of court? It seems this is much bigger than just Attorney Le, though she might be the flashpoint that gets the DoJ to wake the hell up. If their lawyers are so overworked that they say something in open court, well, that should mean something. It’s a pity it won’t. When ICE and CBP invaded Minneapolis, they didn’t think any further than grabbing people. It seems no one thought about what would happen in court. Good grief!

It was the same story on X competitor Bluesky, where attorneys had a lot to say about this admission. “This is unreal,” wrote Minnesota-based lawyer Daniel Suitor. “An AUSA talking like that in open court is about as close as you can come to a total breakdown. Never heard of anything like it.” //// “Headed for some real Al Pacino And Justice For All energy here,” wrote Michigan-based law professor and former state Supreme Court candidate Sam Bagenstos. “But in all seriousness, Trump and Bondi have done a pretty good job of ransacking the Justice Department. It will take enormous work to build a new DOJ that reflects our best traditions once we drive this regime out at the polls.”

WHAM. There it is. This sort of thing definitely does not happen in open court. Ransacking. That’s perfect. Wrecking would be good, too. They chose some idiot prosecutors for Trump’s Revenge Tour, and they were made of fail. Wonder when the next one will show up in the news. But right now, prosecutors are sweating bullets in court as they are overworked and, in a manner of speaking, driven into the ground. We can’t blame them. But we sure as hell can blame ICE, and CBP, and Bozo-ino and Krispi Gnome.

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. Sounds like a sewer has openly backed-up, due the Trump swill and turmoil, so generated. Possibly more of the same symptoms, resulting from Trump’s pestalence, in the near future.

    • Doesn’t it just? We’re only on year 2. Only. No one has figured out a workable way to get him out of office, although Vance might be worse. I wonder what those who voted for him are thinking now.

    • Bingo. They’re going to run out of people quickly, and we are seeing the start of it. Trump’s Barbies couldn’t get cases done. And now Trump’s attack dog is gone. I’d be seriously looking at private practice if I was *any* DoJ lawyer.

Given who’s “in charge of” the DoJ, you’re damn right “it won’t.” Bondi couldn’t care less about how much her people have to work; she just wants to impress HER boss with NUMBERS and if “her” people have to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to meet the quotas, well, so be it. It’s no skin off Bondi’s nose. She didn’t do that much work when she was Florida’s Attorney General and she’s not done that much as US Attorney General.

    • This pretty much sums the entire maladministration. They’re a bunch stupid sycophants who have no idea what the people under them do, nor do they care to find out. Simply pleasing the orange one and running his agenda is their sole purpose in life.

      • Ugghhhh well said. Actually, *all* the comments on this are well said. If we could start the slide of getting people in his cabinet gone it might cascade. Well, I can hope.

    • This is where ‘sins of the fathers’ comes into play. I can’t blame (most of) the attorneys for Blondi and Trump’s nonsense. After having found out what they go through, the legitimate federal prosecutors, well, now I want to cut them some slack. These people are actually federal attorneys who believed in what they were doing. Now, it’s just exhaustion. We really cannot blame them (except for the already obvious exceptions).
