You recall when the Wall Street Journal broke news of the Stormy Daniels payoff and how that set into motion an entire sequence of events and investigations that were previously unthought of. Michael Cohen ended up going to prison. Sunday Rolling Stone dropped the same kind of piece. It’s a lengthy and detailed account by two characters, dubbed the “organizer” and the “planner” who helped put together the January 6 events in Washington, D.C. They were pro-Trump people and happy to be on board, especially since Paul Gosar was talking to them about a blanket pardon in the event one became necessary. They, and another individual described as a senior Republican staffer, were dismayed to see the situation turn violent. And for that they blame Donald Trump, first and foremost.

Both the organizer and the planner have described being involved in “dozens” of planned briefings with different congressional leaders. The names Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Madison Cawthorn, Mo Brooks, Andy Biggs and Louie Gohmert, in addition to Paul Gosar, have all come up and allegations have been made about how they “were intimately involved in planning both Trump’s efforts to overturn his election loss and the Jan. 6 events that turned violent.” Mark Meadows’ name also is mentioned and it is said that of all these people he had the power to stop the violence.

Here are several paragraphs from the middle of the article to give you the feel for where it’s going. Rolling Stone has the article behind a pay wall, but there is so much press out on this piece right now that you will get a lot of details on what’s contained therein.

While it was already clear members of Congress played some role in the Jan. 6 events and similar rallies that occurred in the lead-up to that day, the two sources say they can provide new details about the members’ specific roles in these efforts. The sources plan to share that information with congressional investigators right away. While both sources say their communications with the House’s Jan. 6 committee thus far have been informal, they are expecting to testify publicly.

“I have no problem openly testifying,” the planner says.

A representative for the committee declined to comment. In the past month, the committee has issued subpoenas to top Trump allies, government agencies, and activists who were involved in the planning of events and rallies that took place on that day and in the prior weeks. Multiple sources familiar with the committee’s investigation have confirmed to Rolling Stone that, thus far, it seems to be heavily focused on the financing for the Ellipse rally and similar previous events.

Both of the sources made clear that they still believe in Trump’s agenda. They also have questions about how his election loss occurred. The two sources say they do not necessarily believe there were issues with the actual vote count. However, they are concerned that Democrats gained an unfair advantage in the race due to perceived social media censorship of Trump allies and the voting rules that were implemented as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Democrats used tactics to disrupt their political opposition in ways that frankly were completely unacceptable,” the organizer says.

Despite their remaining affinity for Trump and their questions about the vote, both sources say they were motivated to come forward because of their concerns about how the pro-Trump protests against the election ultimately resulted in the violent attack on the Capitol. Of course, with their other legal issues and the House investigation, both of these sources have clear motivation to cooperate with investigators and turn on their former allies. And both of their accounts paint them in a decidedly favorable light compared with their former allies.

“The reason I’m talking to the committee and the reason it’s so important is that — despite Republicans refusing to participate … this commission’s all we got as far as being able to uncover the truth about what happened at the Capitol that day,” the organizer says. “It’s clear that a lot of bad actors set out to cause chaos. … They made us all look like shit.”

And Trump, they admit, was one of those bad actors. A representative for Trump did not respond to a request for comment.

“The breaking point for me [on Jan. 6 was when] Trump starts talking about walking to the Capitol,” the organizer says. “I was like. ‘Let’s get the fuck out of here.’ ”

“I do kind of feel abandoned by Trump,” says the planner. “I’m actually pretty pissed about it and I’m pissed at him.”

The organizer offers an even more succinct assessment when asked what they would say to Trump.

“What the fuck?” the organizer says.

They do sound disappointed and who can blame them? What January 6 did conclusively, for everybody except total diehard MAGAs who would let Trump shoot people on 5th Avenue and walk scot free, was to show the entire world how utterly unhinged Trump is and to disillusion a lot of supporters who otherwise supported Trump’s agenda, such as the individuals interviewed for this piece. Trump went way too far in denying election results and creating the Big Lie. That is a universal truism, again, for everyone except those who have already drunk the kool aide. And he’s still pushing it. He’s obsessed with it. It’s his entire 2024 platform.

I wonder how that platform will change when these whistleblowers testify publicly in front of the January 6 Select Committee?

And Trump is not the only one whose political trajectory is being affected by this expose. Marjorie Taylor Greene spent all Monday morning on right-wing media proclaiming how the story is the usual fake news and her communications director is trying to put out the fire, claiming that Greene was simply there in the Capitol to register an objection to Biden’s certification. And that took “dozens” of meetings? All that Greene has accomplished is to cause people to have a “the lady protesteth too much, methinks” kind of an attitude.

Greene knows what happened and what evidence could come out. Mark Meadows is unquestionably sweating profusely right now, as well.

Both sources also describe Trump’s White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, as someone who played a major role in the conversations surrounding the protests on Jan. 6. Among other things, they both say concerns were raised to Meadows about Alexander’s protest at the Capitol and the potential that it could spark violence. Meadows was subpoenaed by the committee last month as part of a group of four people “with close ties to the former President who were working in or had communications with the White House on or in the days leading up to the January 6th insurrection.”

“Meadows was 100 percent made aware of what was going on,” says the organizer. “He’s also like a regular figure in these really tiny groups of national organizers.”

National organizers are also national fundraisers. The sources say that they were organizing state protests in the states of various senators that were felt to be “persuadable” to Trump’s cause.

An attempted coup d’etat took place on January 6, 2021. That’s as simple as it gets. The GOP has whitewashed it every way that they can but after these sources testify that might be more difficult to do.

The January 6 Select Committee is the only thing standing between democracy and another coup d’etat, one that might be successful.

  1. When these players get done with their clearing their imbalance during Jan.01 to Jan. 07, answering EVERY question with as much in-person experience as they must have, even the minimal intel Republicans, Gym Jordan and the squeaky gates, may find the truth of their involvement before, during and after the deaths and damage at the Capitol … WILL MAKE FOR SOME TIME AWAY FROM HOME …

These two worthless members of Congress, have done NOTHING of value in all their BS fits of obvious stupidity … other than force committees to waste time with their drivel instead of the progress on projects we all need … watching Jim Jordan and his buddy Matt stutter through the crashing truth about them personally will be a long-coming joy …

Now, we have gotten SO CLOSE to actual court time with Trump senior, the usually stoned JR., has shown his need for a rude awakening about calling out names of people that have told the truth about his family, and blaming someone like he has with a printed shirt, is at once obtuse and probably should be followed up by a law suit by a number of people connected to that fateful day, claiming guilt of a possible defendant in a court action just seems like a criminal process to me …

DJT has SO MANY court appearances with law suits left and right, already the air is getting pretty thin for someone obviously in a poor health situation, never having, “REAL”, friends, just users like himself, who appear to start turning on him post haste … so sad, and SO wonderful, more popcorn stock needed, I think the holidays will hold some presents for all of us, sitting in front of the tubes while the Trump suck-ups on FOX start fumbling around since SO MANY Republicans may be red handed and charged for their misdeeds, along with the, “Greatest president Ever”, pushing broom in those long halls of shame …

Thanks Ursula for your showing the Trump 2024 platform may be a spring loaded board above a pond full of alligators …

  2. If it is proven that these Congressmen/women were directly involved in planning this attack on the Capitol, what will happen to them? Will they be out of their jobs in Congress or will they go to jail or will they just be fined and that’s about it? I just wonder what the consequences will be for their involvement.

    • Expelling them from Congress would take a two-thirds majority vote, which is not likely to happen with most of them. However, I DO look for at least a few resignations, maybe more than a few. Jail time is VERY possible, depending on how much the individuals involved listen to their lawyers and/or play “Let’s Make A Deal” with the prosecutors. Never forget the prime objective: Trump and as much of the inner circle as possible. How thoughtful of them to all wind up in the same place on the same day talking to the same people who are now spilling their guts.

      • You think you’ll see resignations? Obviously possible but not likely. These people don’t care about our nation. They do not care about our democratic institutions. They quite obviously think if they overthrow those institutions, they’ll be sitting in the catbird’s seat (yes, they are extremely delusional). The ones on that list have already done so many stupid things it is hard to imagine something that would shame into retiring.

It would be nice if their orange turd emperor would finally sit in front of a judge but looking at Garland’s stunts, I’m not even so sure we’ll see that and short of him being called into account for his crimes, I’m pretty sure these yahoos will continue on with what they’re doing. Even were he to sit in a courtroom, be found guilty, and (hopefully) see jail time I’m not so sure they would back down.

  3. Two observations:

    1) You only get away with being this blatant if there is no real resistance and pushback. That requires a solid plan and competent lieutenants to make sure there are no problems. Which leads me to…

    2) Every operation Trump has ever been in charge of fails. He has no planning skills, his lieutenants are guaranteed to be dumber than he is and his goals are solely focused on immediate gratification with no concept of fallout. Add in that he has an uncanny ability to piss away every advantage he has been bequeathed and where we are now is neither accident nor surprise.

  4. ISNT THIS FUN.. country is sopping it up. AND THEN with TRUMPS RECENT .. shafting of GOP telling MAGA not to vote in 2022 ! I would think most real republicans will be wearing hard hats to prevent constituent brickbats!

    • We’ll see. the Lincoln Project just effed up in a stupid way. I hope it didn’t cost Terry the election in VA but I think he’s toast now.
