Trump has really outdone himself with the stupid on this one. He gets mad and decides to change the name of something. He should have better and more important things to do with his time instead of this childish nonsense. Wait, Trump isn’t a child? Who knew? Well, he’s shot himself in the arse again because he is sulking that Canada didn’t bow down to his demands. No one wants to be part of the United States, and that includes a bunch of us who are stuck here. Greenland is Greenland. Canada is Canada. The Strait of Hormuz is not the Strait of Trump. And the Gulf of Mexico isn’t the Gulf of America, either.
MAGA does not care about Lake America. They care, as all of us do, about groceries and jobs and housing and gas, not renaming a lake because Trump is a petulant child. And Lake Ontario was not named after the province, so Trump should keep his greasy paws off it. We don’t want it contaminated. Losing our partnership with Canada is going to hurt us a lot, on top of all the tariff bullsht going on already!

Trump’s executive order renaming Lake Ontario as Lake America will underline to conservative voters his obsession with trivialities and remind them of one of the most unpopular moves he made at the beginning of his second term, CNN’s Aaron Blake argued. “The move recalls one of Trump’s splashiest (so to speak) moves on his first day back in office last year, when he signed an order renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the ‘Gulf of America,'” wrote Blake. “That went over like a lead balloon.” Riding higher early in his term, they now risk reinforcing how preoccupied he is with not just trifles, but things that Americans decidedly do not want,” he wrote.
We don’t care about a ballroom or a triumphal arch or his name on the Kennedy Center (grrr) or whatever else he wants to rename. He needs to leave well enough alone. But it seems he’s seen his mortality, and wants to leave his mark in America and on the world so history will remember him. He’s too far gone to realize he’ll be remembered for what he did wrong, because he didn’t do anything right. This is another list that would be never-ending. It’s ridiculous.
America says leave Lake Ontario alone. Just because Trump is having yet another temper tantrum with Canada doesn’t mean we don’t like Canada, because we do. It’s quite a place, even if it gets too cold in the winter. We can’t and don’t blame Canada for reciprocal tariffs, although it’s going to make a number of products more expensive. If only it would make things Trump wants more expensive. We can certainly blame Trump for the costs increasing. Trump obsesses over tariffs. They don’t do us any good. They make things worse. If anyone has any ideas on how to get Trump to leave Canada (and Mexico, and all our other partners) alone, let’s hear them. Otherwise, it is back to the calendar countdown ‘til he gets gone.
