There was a time, before Trump came along when I was the type of person who’d look at how far John Eastman has fallen with a mixture of wonder and regret. How did someone who’d had a solid legal career go so wrong? The version of me that formed due to Trump takes savage delight that John Eastman’s legal career is officially and FINALLY over! Being a Trumpkin he of course appealed his disbarment. They said NO. His legal career is done and there’s not a damned thing Trump can do about it!
As far as I’m concerned like every other person (including Trump) that was involved in planning and managing the actual Jan. 6 insurrection riot belongs in prison. In this case we have to settle for Eastman being disgraced. Hopefully this will be the last we hear about him. Unless somehow criminal charges can be brought. However if he thinks he can pad his retirement with a book or two, or going on the RWNJ lecture circuit I could be wrong but I think Trump will make sure John Eastman stays in a quiet retirement keeping his mouth shut. A financial arrangement of some sort will be made. Eastman knows where a LOT of J6 bodies are buried so Trump will want to keep him mollified.
However being a lawyer again and even some high profile gig as a RWNJ news outlet? Nope. Maybe if he’d just accepted the original disbarment ruling and laid low for a while he might have had better options. However Trump’s ‘Trumpiness’ rubbed off on him and he felt compelled to push the issue. Now, thanks to the Court of Appeals there’s a big, YUGE exclamation point on his disgrace of being disbarred as Alternet reports:
The decision came weeks after Bar Court Judge Yvette Roland ruled Eastman should be removed. Last year, A California appellate court, charged with reviewing recommendations to discipline lawyers in that state, affirmed the findings of a trial judge and recommended that Eastman ‘be disbarred from the practice of law in California and that Eastman’s name be stricken from the roll of attorneys.'”
To recap Eastman was the driver of the false/replacement electors stunt. Luckily despite the fact he tried, Mike Pence couldn’t quite find a legal way he could live with allow it to be implemented leaving Trump no choice but to incite the riot to stop the counting of Electoral Votes. My point is that Eastman was an integral part of MIS-using the law to keep Trump in office. No doubt he provided legal analysis of other things than the fake electors. However his role was well known enough that we saw him suffer the fate attorneys hate to visit on pretty scumbag lawyers. A case was made to his State Bar (California) for action and they disbarred him.
However while fighting disbarment Eastman wasn’t just sitting around. He was also active in helping Team Trump craft its legal strategy to end birthright citizenship. I wonder if his name is on any of the briefs Team Trump filed with SCOTUS. Our PZ folks with actual law degrees can chime in but if so that would give reason to pull those from the evidence being weighed by the Court.
An already weak case that at least seems to be headed for another Trump loss would be even weaker! I’d suspect in their weekly conferences at least Justice Jackson will pointedly tell the GOP appointees, especially those appointed by Trump any brief Eastman had a hand in wasn’t worth the paper it was printed on given that he’s not just been disbarred, but the disbarment ruling was UPHELD on appeal. In fact, it throws the whole Trump “case” into question. Again, not having graduated law school I can’t be sure but work product from a disbarred lawyer can’t be considered evidence in any court.
So folks – we have a twofer. Eastman is completely and thoroughly disgraced. Trump has to be pissed to because Eastman was part of his inner circle that coached him on how to hang onto the Presidency after Biden kicked his ass. Trump’s Presidential pardon powers don’t mean jack sh!t in a State Bar disciplinary matter. For all his power he has NONE on this one which has got to piss him off big time. For me it’s a double-dose of warm fuzzies over two despicable people being handed their asses. For our conservative lurkers who take offense at me reveling in their misery and feel like criticizing me I say “Suck It!”

Not only do these goons ignore judges, they ignore facts.
