You remember hearing Elon Musk saying that the budget could be cut 33% and defense spending could increase “to record levels.” And you remember Donald Trump saying he won’t go after Medicare or Social Security. If your head is spinning and you’re saying, “How can both things be true?” you’re thinking straight. These are two thoughts which are mutually exclusive and in contradiction — unless you’re a MAGA and believe this incoming administration is going to work miracles and not wreak havoc. The fact of the matter is that there are only so many government programs and it’s a no brainer that the biggest safety net programs that we have, Medicare and Social Security, are going to be the sacrificial lambs, if some major financial overhaul actually takes place. This is not good territory for the GOP to go into and they know that, but here the stage is being set for the cry of Democratic stonewalling being the reason the budget can’t be balanced. Pure fiction but what isn’t nowadays with Trump returning?

I am as disgusted as you are with all this, but here’s the reality: there’s a one or two vote GOP majority in the House. It’s not like this is sitting on greased wheels and ready to roll. And McCormick is a first term congressman, so it’s not like he has either amazing insight or legislative ability. Plus, the Democratic caucus is rock solid, and I do not believe that any of them are stupid enough to vote to destroy these core programs. This is all puffery on Fox News.
This is a real battleground issue and I do not see Medicare and Social Security just fading away without a fight. But I do see some fantastic pie in the sky rhetoric about how great privatizing Social Security and Medicare would be, if only the Evil Democrats would play nice and gut these programs. You’ll see a lot of hyperbole but don’t be swayed. Cutting those programs is a disastrous concept.

I wonder how many of Mr Trump’s many elderly supporters rely on Medicare and Social Security?
Just a lot, or most of them?
Face, meet leopard.
Again.
Except for the wealthy donors, who don’t care what happens to the serfs.
All of them. Especially in the South, where workers have no rights. The only two things Get hugs care about are power and the money that power brings them. I don’t think.I have ever heard of a poor Rethought in Congress.
Pretty sure a few GOP types will.vote with the Dems to.avoid being unemployed. Unemployment. checks don’t come close to.that $175,000 a year plus whatever they can grift…
