Well, well, this is interesting.

Despite all the lamentations and predictions of doom after President Biden’s perceived poor performance in last night’s debate, it appears that former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe has been working the phones and hearing from other party volunteers and officials that Trump really shi* the bed with swing voters. Who could guess that voters who have not, for various reasons, chosen between Biden and Trump would not appreciate being told bald face lies by a egomaniacal fat-faced-door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman with no regard for the truth?

Who indeed…

PoliticusUsa.com has the scoop:

“President Joe Biden got off to a slow start in the debate, but swing voters were turned off by Donald Trump.

David Plouffe provided a bit of insight into how Trump’s debate performance polled with focus groups:

All you can do if you’re a Democrat is ask yourself what I can do, which is, yeah, we missed an opportunity here tonight, a significant opportunity, but it’s still a close race and you’re running against Donald Trump. And again, I think this will come out. But, you know, I’ve talked to people who are doing dial groups and focus groups with folk with swing voters And as much as they were concerned about Biden’s performance and they were, uh you know, they weren’t, no one was saying I’m really excited about Donald Trump coming back to the presidency. He, he reconfirmed all the reasons they voted against him in 2020. And again, I look at that as a huge missed opportunity.”

A missed opportunity is a good way to view this debate for Democrats. Trump started out trying to be lucid, but that was gone after about 20 minutes, and by the end of the debate Trump was incoherently rambling about dementia tests and golf.

On the other hand, Biden started out poorly, but at around the same time that Trump began to slide, the President got better.“

A missed opportunity is never good, but it beats the hell out of all the wailing and caterwauling that was going on on our side last night.

As I reported in my previous post this morning, early indications are that last night really didn’t cost us many votes after all.

This is great news!

Here are David and Rachel:

👍👍👍

Yup. Trump thinks everyone is as stupid as he is…

I’ll take it.

Yup

Not gonna happen.

After the bummer last night this day is looking up!

Now, if Joe just does good at his rally in North Carolina…

  1. I watched just enough of the debate to see that, as I suspected, Trump was reconfirming himself as a lying gaslighter. I was so turned off by him that I turned the TV off after just a few minutes. It has gotten so that his face and voice sicken me. I hope that a majority of other people reacted the same way.

  2. Anyone who votes for a felon convicted on 34 counts, a confirmed rapist hammered in civil court, a business fraud on the hook for half a billion in a judgement, a traitor who called the veterans losers and suckers, told by a senior military member OF HIS STAFF, a serial liar, and a nazi loving dictator wannabe, IS LOST ALREADY. PHUCK THESE NAZIS. Anyone with a modicum of character would run the other way. By the way, what are “black jobs”? Those meant for the field and house ni**ers? Just call me curious. Racist POS!

  3. I think Plouffe is correct, despite the opposite spin in the headlines of many newspapers. When I look at the DJT stock, I find an article titled, “Trump Media Stock Jumps after Presidential Debate.” However, if you look at the stock graph, this is absolutely false. You’d see by the graph that after a precipitous plunge in stock value, the DJT stock has risen again somewhat in the very few days immediately preceding the debate, but today, the day after last night’s debate, the DJT stock value has again plummetted, currently (at 2 PM) down by about -6.4% from yesterday.

Apparently a majority of investors were actually turned off by Trump’s obvious lies and gaslighting last night. I am not an investor in DJT, but I certainly was turned off by Trump’s lies, to the point of turning off the set after a few minutes.

I am glad to see the stock plummet this way immediately following the debate. It means that others see through his lies, just as I do.

  4. You know, I hate to beat a dead horse-especially one that is four years dead-but democrats did not do themselves any favors by choosing Biden as their presidential candidate back in 2020. Biden is a good man, a statesman, and his administration has accomplished a hell of a lot more than Von Shitzinpants’ did. Problem is Joe is old, it shows, and I guess it must have really gotten up close and personal last night. You’re all saying “but trump is old and senile”-very true but trump voters also trend older, senile, and hateful and hateful trump does VERY well. Democrats (and everyone else apparently) expect things from their pols especially from their leaders and those expectations aren’t hating/belittling/etc. the “other” unlike ‘pube/magat voters (who don’t expect anything at all from their pols–which is exactly what they get). Biden is old and cannot blast his message on a debate stage any more. He cannot beat up anyone with his accomplishments. He cannot shout to the country the things our country needs to hear so desperately (before we f*ck up big time). A younger pol or a senile pol can do those things.

Before the debate, Von Shitzinpants’ team were lowering expectations but really, did they even have to do so? magats, the core magats, are going to support someone as hateful as they are and nothing he could say or do is going to sway them. I hope his descent into dementia you all say he exhibited last night sways indies, never-trump ‘pubes, and the magats who want to be ex-magats because if Joe looked and sounded old during the debate, those same voters are either going to stay with Von Shitz or stay home in November.

There is supposed to be a 2nd debate correct? I sure as all get out hope Joe comes out more lively than he did last night and not to be too dramatic about it–our country depends on him doing so.

    • The second debate will be the one. Closer to the election, Trump can’t refuse, and won’t, he’ll think he can ‘beat’ Biden, Biden won’t have a cold – and he’ll have taken on good advice about how he performed. If Biden appears a little louder and more assured, Trump the mendasist is finished.
And despite all the polls, it stretches credulity to think that Trump increaser his vote over the last election.
But Dems must counter all those lies with a proper campaign refuting them. ASAP.

  5. Joe was sick last night, not his usual brilliant self. And I am sick and tired of people who pretend to be Democrats, trying to divide us. Our only hope is Joe. No one else has the name recognition needed to beat Trump. That’s an important thing. So is his excellent record of achievements and the huge afvantage of incumbency.

Spike, you may pretend to be a Democrat, but I highly doubt it. Your words indicate subversion. Joe is a far, far better choice than Trump or any of the Democrat or third party alternatives.

I wish all people fomenting division in the party at this late date would shut up, or get out. You don’t have the national interest at heart.

    • I am reading these posts on Saturday, can only say perhaps the gloom and doom from the debate will evaporate into thin air, after Biden’s rally in NC on Friday. I truly believe his performance at the debate was the result of many factors, including his cold, and the lack of challenges by the moderators. He was much stronger on Friday, so maybe the rebuke will rebound.

  6. I am on a medical.list. Medical.experts pointed out that even OTC meds like cold and cough syrups or even good old Tylenol can affect your response time. I would actually like to see both candidates take a blood and urine sample because it would act prove that one of them had been snorting Aderall or meth or coke, while the other had taken cold meds. Trump’s behavior pattern really does resemble someone on the initial.high from.a stimulant and then it’s wearing off at about the 90 minute mark where you go from hopped up like a jackrabbit in mating season to a precipitous crash into incoherent gibberish.
