Well, well. If having a gigantic and ridiculously-appointed 747 didn’t sufficiently scream “Unapologetic Dictator,” we find ourselves entering the Kim Jong Un – ‘Supreme Leader of North Korea’ phase attendant to this administration, and the latest dictatorial move is perhaps less subtle than the above-referenced plane. A president does, at the very least, need a plane on which to fly. Hanging a banner with Trump’s patented glare right next to former President LINCOLN on the Department of Agriculture (Is that still a thing? Call Elon… ) is unnecessary, uncalled for, and yet painfully not unexpected. It is also dangerous.

So this happened:

Right.

He does it both because he can and because he wants to. Every other president would rather self-immolate than draw comparisons to secular-saint Lincoln. Imagine President Joe Biden or Kamala Harris (Or don’t, if it all just hurts too much) accepting a 747 from a Gulfstate despotic family, only to then promote themselves as both deserving of a massive banner while also tossing out an implicit comparison to a man who freed the slaves and saved the Union. Hard, no? MAGAs would freak themselves into public defilement.

Settle down for a moment. This is as dangerous as you suspect. These are precursors – the type of thing one has to thrust upon people while on the way to tossing aside inconvenient Constitutional prohibitions. This holds with respect to everything from birthright citizenship (What if the SCOTUS says “No” to the administration and yet Trump refuses to recognize said citizens?), and then extends all the way to ignoring the Constitutional limitation to two terms. If a guy is going to say, “They’ve fckt me so badly that I deserve a third term,” then one wants banners all over Washington setting the tone for just such an attempt. It is less funny seen as another cog in a positive feedback loop, one meant to lull us into simply accepting, “He’s corrupt AF and that’s ‘just Trump,’ so be it.” No. Remember, the purpose of propaganda in any form is not to have you believe any one thing but to give up on the idea of knowing anything with certainty, like Constitutional imperatives operating with full force.

It is all just less funny in the proper light.

You can be assured that everyone on Twitter noticed. Many MAGA fans loved the North Korean comparison – yes, they do, because of course they do.

Meanwhile, those who refuse to give up on the idea of a Constitutional Republic try to stave off participating in a Jonestown redux.

Trump is spending $92 million on a birthday military parade and plastering his face on the sides of government buildings.

First,I have heard of this. But two things. One, many here will note that I went on a self-imposed screen-free period to get back to a more spiritual life, and one gets behind, and Two – It sure seems ‘On-Brand’ for Trump… so to speak.

Pay attention to that word, “Brand.” Because you can bet your branded ass that Donald Trump pays attention to it. And, be just as certain that this brand is meant to go places. Watch the declaration of availability – both legally and personally, for a third term. Everything about him, from falling in love with Kim to putting himself up alongside Lincoln, it just all screams that he’s going to try it.

It would be on-brand with this and everything else.

  1. Welcome back, Jason. Good to hear you back here. Great observations.

I think they’ve made a big mistake in choosing that particular photo. It’s his Atlanta mug shot. he’s already grifted off it with T shirts and coffee mugs. Why not come up with a new picture, then sell more T shirts and mugs. They already pedalled the hand/fist in the air in Butler. Hmm, maybe the one going up the stairs to AF1 with TP on his shoe… How about the one of him saluting the North Korean general?
