This is just the newest incident in the GOP civil war. You’re going to see a lot of it. The red tribe has branched into the red and orange tribes. The “red” tribe is the traditional GOP, what’s left, and the orange branch is the pro-Trump loonies. Nobody fits that description better than Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, who brags about packing heat everywhere she goes. She loves to show off her “Glock.” Her communications director just up and quit after only two weeks on the job because evidently he can’t figure out a way to spin Boebert’s craziness in a positive light. And apparently he didn’t want to go ask Kayleigh McEnany for pointers. Who knows, maybe McEnany will go to work for Boebert? Axios:

Why it matters: Ben Goldey’s resignation cited last week’s insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, which followed efforts by Boebert and lawmakers to block certification of Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory. The Hill veteran’s departure highlights the deep divide among Republicans over President Trump’s conduct. […]

Between the lines: Boebert is a strident Trump supporter firmly on the right flank of the House GOP caucus. She was clear about her views during her campaign, but they have suddenly become politically toxic following last week’s attack.

  • Boebert’s quickly become a lightning rod by railing against “fraudulent” votes for Biden in a floor speech ahead of the attack, and by making a show — including in an ad filmed on the Hill — of her desire to carry a handgun in the Capitol.
  • Goldey, by contrast, has a more establishment pedigree. He was the press secretary at the Department of Interior until this year, and previously worked for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Be smart: Goldey’s resignation underscores larger Republican divisions, particularly in the House, where ten GOP members – including conference chair Rep. Liz Cheney – voted to impeach Trump on Wednesday.

  • The same divisions are evident on the other side of the Capitol. Sen. Ted Cruz’s communications director, Lauren Blair Bianchi, also resigned on Monday, reportedly over Cruz’s role in the effort to deny certification for Biden.

Maybe Stephanie Grisham could go to work for Ted Cruz? This is looking to be a remarkable game of musical chairs before it’s all over. Nothing but the best people, right?

  1. I’d say this is the closest confirmation yet that both Boebert and Cruz are under investigation. Such investigations include interviewing staff members who often freak out when their own legal jeopardy – acquired by their close association with a soon-to-be-indicted felon – is made clear to them. Remember Hope Hicks who quit after being interviewed by Mueller’s investigators? She returned but not until a long time after the Special Counsel’s investigation had been abruptly curtailed by Bill Barr’s appearance on the scene and she felt safe to be there again.

  2. Another entitled moronic ahole. My suggestion? No one gets a gun until u demonstrate competence & judgement. Funny, u can’t drive without PROVING competence, judgement, & a goddamn willingness to follow tbe phucking rules.

    • Well, as the “2nd Amendment Advocates” (aka “ammosexuals”) have long explained, “There’s no such thing as a Constitutional right to own a car” (read that as “Thay’res no sich thang as a Con-sti-too-shunal rat to own a car”).

And since that bunch of “original intent” members of SCOTUS decided a few years back that the Second’s whole “A well-regulated militia” clause was absolutely meaningless, the above belief has only spread further.

  3. What happened about the report that Boebert[sic] tweeted Nancy Pelosi’s location when the rioters were at work at the capitol? That should be enough to eject her from the House and get her arrested. I know there are skeptics about the reported unauthorized tour the night before, but, well . . .
