“ChickenTrump” Bails On 60 Minutes Interview

Polls seem to be all over the place.  Even during a given day you see articles about Harris and Trump with good and bad news for each. It’s conventional wisdom that a candidate with a solid lead should avoid debates if they can. It’s like someone in the military going to the flight surgeon for an annual physical – the best  you can hope for is to hold your own. Trump however knows he’s in a real fight. To listen to his bluster you’d think he’d LOVE being able to stand there on stage and (in his tiny mind  at least) show the country how  “superior” he is to Harris. Trump however is scared of his own shadow these days and I mean that almost literally. He knows he’s being called chicken for not accepting Harris’ challenge to at least one more debate. However welts on his fat butt from the last ass-whuppin Harris gave him haven’t faded so he’s running away. As in running away from a long tradition of BOTH major Party candidates sitting for a 60 Minutes interview.

I just saw this article in Huffington Post and it makes the point I mentioned earlier. Trump is flat-out SCARED these days. Hell, even Fox sometimes questions him a bit although they try like hell to help him cover for his worst excesses. Trump is simply too stupid to realize they are actually trying to help him but I digress. Trump only wants to spend time in ‘safe spaces’ – with RWNJ interviewers who will help him make up wild-ass stuff and praise him as he goes along. And his rallies. People may walk out early nowdays but no one dares boo or shout catcalls at him.  An actual interview with a sometimes (I won’t forgive CBS for not fact checking tonight’s VP debate in real time) reputable network is something Trump wants no part of. He’s hesitant these days to go on FOX for chrissakes, so someplace like CBS and the venerable 60 Minutes is something he’d avoid the way a vampire avoids sunlight or holy water.

Funny thing though, Trump initially agreed to this decades old tradition. 60 Minutes would run a special with interviews of both major Party candidates. Now we are told Trump has chosen to back out:

“For over half a century, 60 Minutes has invited the Democratic and Republican tickets to appear on our broadcast as Americans head to the polls,” the statement read, saying that both Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris had accepted the invitation.

Harris has not backed out, but Trump has, the statement asserts.

“After initially accepting 60 Minutes’ request for an interview with Scott Pelley, former President Trump’s campaign has decided not to participate,” according to the statement. “Pelley will address this Monday evening.”

Team Trump has wasted no time responding call it (of course) ‘fake news’ that Trump had ever agreed to take part in all this:

“Fake News,” Cheung posted on X Tuesday in response to the “60 Minutes” statement. “60 Minutes begged for an interview, even after they were caught lying about Hunter Biden’s laptop back in 2020. There were initial discussions, but nothing was ever scheduled or locked in.”

Well, Trump and all his people for that matter lie all the time so that statement shouldn’t surprise any of us. However the linked article goes on to note what is the REAL reason Trump decided to run away in terror.  Cheung took particular note of CBS insistence on fact checking. NOW we’re getting somewhere:

“They also insisted on doing live fact checking, which is unprecedented,” he said.

Am I the only one who thinks HuffPost buried the lede?  It seems to me the real story here is that Trump got a small dose of being live fact-checked by ABC moderators during his debate. Trump knows his TV and he damn sure knows 60 Minutes. He and his gang of criminals might have been able to browbeat the once proud network of Cronkite and Rather into meekly backing down from fact checking tonight’s debate. However, CBS wants no part of what they put themselves through with the tobacco story all those years ago. The last thing they need is 60 Minutes, the whole team blasting the network for not allowing them to fact-check Trump.

So, when Trump tried to convince them not to fact check they pretty much told him to suck it. And Trumpy huffed and puffed and threatened to blow their house down and they STILL said suck it. THAT friends is why Trump has chosen to bail.  There’s still time for him to reconsider I suppose. Although Trump (and Loony Loomer and others who have his ear) don’t listen to them anymore he’s still got a handful of political pros trying to tell him how bad a look it will be for Harris’ interview to be aired. And for Trump’s part 60 Minutes talking about him not showing up and subjecting himself to a REAL interview by REAL journalists who would put him on the spot.

With mail-in and even in many places early in person voting underway having Harris’ on a show like 60 Minutes (I’m sure she’ll do well) is going to be a big shot in the arm of the Harris/Walz campaign. And give even more credence to the “Trump is a chicken. He won’t debate. He won’t even do non-Fox interviews!  CHICKEN TRUMP” narrative. Who knows? It might goad him into a debate and if so it will come so late as to bury Trump come election day itself.

But the big news is that Trump has given into fear and is running (or trying to – the man couldn’t actually run if his life depended on it) away screaming “60 Minutes is after me! Help!!!!!”
