The plight of the salmon swimming upstream is enviable compared to that of New York’s governor right now. Andrew Cuomo’s situation is more analogous to a salmon swimming to the moon. He is not going to overcome the level of public opinion that is against him. As Abraham Lincoln so sagely and presciently noted, so long ago, “public sentiment is everything. With public sentiment, nothing can fail. Without it, nothing can succeed.” It is that black and white, and Cuomo needs to wake up.
Cuomo is in high denial mode right now and painting his accusers and detractors as a pack of liars out to smear him. Staying in high denial is only going to make this worse, and that was consensus a few weeks ago. Here’s the latest slate of people admonishing Cuomo to resign.
-
House Judiciary chair Jerry Nadler
-
House Oversight chair Carolyn Maloney
-
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
-
Rep. Jamal Bowman
-
Rep. Mondaire Jones
-
Rep. Grace Meng
-
Rep. Yvette Clark
-
Rep. Adriano Espaillat
-
Rep. Nydia Velasquez
Rep. Kathleen Rice, another House Democrat from New York, had previously called for Cuomo’s resignation.
The big picture: The statements come one day after New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and 59 New York state lawmakers called for Cuomo to resign. New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie has authorized an impeachment investigation into Cuomo, who is also facing an independent inquiry from the New York attorney general and a police inquiry in Albany.
This is way too much for anybody to handle. If Cuomo has the sense that God gave a goat, he’ll resign by the end of today, or over the weekend at the latest. He’s a holdover from another age, when men routinely got away with all this. This is the #MeToo era. He’s not going to hold up in the face of all the damning evidence against him and he’s only making it worse.

Or he thinks he learned a lesson from Democrats resigning under pressure while Republicans wait it out until it’s forgotten.
That could well be. But he’s not “waiting this out” it’s only getting worse by the day.
His words and actions are more like the former guy to occupy the white house than anyone else.
After 2016 I took a firm position of never having an opinion on NY state politics ever again. Bwa Ha ha…sucks to be everyone but me! Lol.
I will still watch Mr. Robot, though.
Innocent until proven guilty. How does that work in the “me too” movement? Why are these women coming out now? Why didn’t they come out before Covid? These are only questions – not accusations. IMO, this is to stop his run for POTUS at any time in the future. He effed up with the Covid count. That’s enough. But is this to assure he can’t win? I put NOTHING past repugnants to stop Dems in their tracks.
I was molested by 2 uncles when very young. I always knew I had been molested but didn’t remember the details until my 40’s, when it was safe to do so. I get it.
45 didn’t RESIGN!!!! He had many more sexual accusations and details. Why the hell are we harder on the Dems? Another question, not an accusation. I wish Al Franken hadn’t resigned FFS.
45 is about to have his day in court, the first of quite a few, on many of these matters.
No-one gets away now.
