MSNBC just reported that the DNC had put out an announcement that it will put forward and confirm a presidential nominee by August 2md. This really clears the air.
There are two solid reasons for this. First, there are a handful of states, mostly red states that have strict time limits on the submission of a name for the ballot in order for the state to submit the ballots for printing for early mail in and absentee ballots to be ready on time. This late inning switcheroo is an anomaly, and the DNC doesn’t want to give any red state Attorney’s General an excuse to file a bullsh*t lawsuit, so they’ll hold a virtual roll call of the delegates, probably on August 1st.
The second reason is that there just isn’t any reason to stall. Harris already has more than 1400 of the 2000+ delegates she neess pledging their votes for her, and any real potential floor challengers at the convention have already endorsed Harris, effectively removing them from the fight.
This sets up the best of all possible worlds for the DNC going into the convention, and at no real expense. The only change will be purely procedural. On the opening day of the RNC, they had an afternoon session in order to call the roll of the delegates to officially nominate Trump so that the convention could move forward. This move simply eliminates the afternoon session, and allows them to move straight forward with the first nights speeches.
This also leaves the Democrats free to spend the next three weeks to plan a unified lovefest, unencumbered by any possible floor fight. They can plan for a celebration and veneration of Biden’s 50 years of public service, and then pivot to enthusiastically endorse the handing over of the torch to the new generation of Democratic leadership. Game. Set. Match.
I thank you for the privilege of your time.

I’ve always hated the roll-call anyway. All those states and territories with some leader who just can’t leave it with “The great state/commonwealth/territory of whatever proudly casts its votes for (insert candidate name)”. No, they have to go on with some stuff about their place. Sometimes (not nearly enough) it’s short and sweet but more often than not it turns into Please STFU already!” territory. It’s time that could be much better spent with speeches and videos from the stage. A great chance for potential new leaders to get some “game time” for down the road. Cable networks will break in from regular stuff to head to the convention hall for updates and jump in if anything particularly noteworthy happens.
Everyone but those chosen to announce the delegate votes from wherever the hell they are from (including their own delegates) would be happy to skip that whole thing.
I really liked the way they handled the roll call of delegates at the 2020 virtual Democratic convention, where the delegates stood outside local beauty spots in their state or territory. It was so much more peaceful than delegates screaming over each other in a hall with bad acoustics. And I enjoyed all the scenery.
Kamala is wasting no time and I am loving it. He campaign is already hitting Traitor Tot like a freight train.
You people don’t know the meaning of the word LOYALTY. No vote for Harris.
I know winning, and unfortunately losing sometimes too. I grew up playing sports and had teammates where there was intense mutual dislike and even outright hated in one case that lasted into adulthood. But on the field or the court we set that shit aside because in team sports even if you have a great player that can dominate a game it still takes a team working together. I will forever be pissed at Democrats who turned on the President but we don’t have time for that shit right now. NOTHING is more important than beating Trump and electing a Democratic Senate and House that can help President Harris move forward the agenda she and President Biden set in motion. To build on it. And even launch new initiatives that will improve the lives of us regular folks. AFTER the election we can take stock of elected Democrats that did the same thing to President Biden all this year that they did to Jimmmy Carter during pretty much his entire Presidency. Only this was worse. After everyone’s sworn in we can go about the process of finding new and better Democrats to primary them! But all that has to wait.
I wrote yesterday about what Sen. Klobuchar said, something we should all take to heart. We don’t have time for bitterness. She’d go on to politely say the time will come to look back at what happened but right now we don’t have time. We had people pissed off about Bernie in 2016, others pissed off at Hillary for manuvering to curtail any challenge to her getting the nomination. Yes she won the popular vote by almost three million but 77k votes spread across three crucial states made the diffencre.
That how few people like you it takes to hand the Presidency to Trump and the Senate at least to the GOP. Maybe the House too. And kiss what this country once was goodbye. As well as our standing in the world. You don’t think President Biden’s supremely pissed so many supposed allies not only didn’t have his back (not really) this year and then came for him with the long knives? I know, I KNOW he’s furious. But he’s got his eye on the horizon and since HE is telling me to get over it and pull out the stops for Harris like he’s doing and will keep doing then by god I’LL set aside my anger and bitterness and focus on winning in November. Being angry and sitting home, voting third Party or writing in a name (even Biden) is effectively a vote for Trump. So think about it. Please.
You are so right Denis. I too am extremely pissed at what they did to President Biden, BUT I will follow his lead. He IS/WAS the greatest President of my time. 🌊💙🌊💙🌊
In the future Joe Biden’s name WILL BE included in lists of the Top
10 U.S. Presidents, while TFG will be in a tie with James Buchanan for dead last.
If you were planning to vote for Joe Biden this year, you were going to get Kamala Harris as well (the campaign was “Biden/Harris,” after all).
So, “loyalty” runs both way, idiot. President Biden has given his FULL support to his Vice-President’s presidential bid (and, again, she was going to be his VP candidate anyway) so, maybe, if you want to show some REAL “loyalty,” you’ll honor President Biden’s wishes and support and vote for Kamala Harris.
Joe blow…how’s the weather in Moscow? Either you’re a mole, or not too bright. Loyalty? It’s the democrats versus the nazis. Which are you?
