The theological debates continue to rage on what is the proper protocol now that the unthinkable has happened and the insurrectionist/adjudicated rapist/convicted felon is actually going to move into the big White House on Pennsylvania Avenue? Again? The word “civility” is not in Donald Trump’s lexicon nor in his makeup. His basic stance towards life is antagonistic and always has been. The term “asshole” began being applied to Trump very early on because he created friction where none was necessary. He never knew how to work with people and he never wanted to learn.

So people have had to adapt to Trump and since he’s up for a second go round the presidential maypole in a week and a half and if anything, he’s more antagonistic than ever, it behooves us all to have a national conversation on what to expect in the very near future.

I hope that this absurd meltdown on Morning Joe’s is not the direction we are going as a country. But there is a good point to be made here about civility. Civility, like respect, is a two-way street. And Trump doesn’t know any two-way streets. For him, there only one way and that’s his way. Even before taking office he’s managed to insult our allies and it’s only going to get worse when he takes the oath of office. For now, he’s still the president-elect. And yes, that carries substantial weight. But when he’s actually the POTUS, then his mouth running will have a different import altogether. It will have the authority of his office behind it and then watch it start to hit the fan like never before.

Trump hasn’t changed his spots, and he won’t. He’s already strained international alliances to the breaking point and look for that to continue, full throttle. Trump is in this for grift and shits and giggles. That’s it. The grift is flourishing. He’s got his marketing team selling Dark MAGA hats (in commemoration of the “dark day” of him actually being sentenced) and whiskey glasses with bullets embedded, you name it. Tasteless, crass, cheesy, just like the man himself.

Joe Scarborough is desperately trying to regain lost ground and lost stature and I don’t see it happening. He and Mika look abashed at best and sometimes even desperate. They know things are out of control and they don’t know what to do about it. Here’s another clip from that show on income inequality.

Many self-made millionaires and billionaires have said the same thing as this. I remember George Lucas, who grew up in a modest clapboard house in an older neighborhood of Modesto, California, saying that, “Buying the first sports car was a tremendous rush. But the next one, it’s not the same.”

So why grift for every single penny like Trump’s billionaire’s boys club does? It’s hard to know that. It’s above my pay grade to understand. I think it’s just the idea of power. Money is power and Elon Musk managed to use his money to buy a president and now we’re going to see what that looks like.

The only thing that we can say for sure at this point is that people who don’t need money are going to have even more of a surplus and those of modest circumstances are going to be hurting even more. But maybe that’s the lesson that needs to be learned so that the next con man who comes down the political pike will be spotted more easily.

Some lessons in life are bought at a steep price.

  1. The super rich lust after more and more money because that’s all they have in their empty gold-plated lives. Very few of them manage to retain any morality from a previous, less privileged existence. Mackenzie Scott’s a magnificent example of that few and she attracts the wrath of Musk for being generous with her wealth. The USA is officially an oligarchy come 20 January, when Trump and his appalling cabinet form the govt. History shows us that oligarchies are only ended by revolutions of the downtrodden peasantry, always violently. Buckle up, folks.

    • Careful…the hovering church lady will accuse you of ‘raging’. Actually he’s more like a hall monitor. Yet…I believe history has your back. The complacent, who’ve NEVER known REAL trouble, ALWAYS live in denial when HORROR looms. When the pain becomes widespread, and more people become desperate…you never know. If every tyrant in history actually SAW the seeds of revolution brewing…I guess there would have been NONE. I guess all those ultra wealthy people wouldn’t have chosen to build multimillion dollar homes in a brushpile…they were busy looking at the view. The future is hard to predict. Some say impossible.
