Trump nominees and bowling pins appear to have much in common. He sets up his nominees and boom — they get knocked down and in record time. Of course, considering the quality of the nominees, that makes sense. There does seem to be a preponderance of pedophiles, woman abusers and/or womanizers, alcoholics and other substance abusers. But the most recent Trump nominee has washed out for other reasons. MAGA hates him because he marched in a Pride parade. Can’t have that.

Back to the drawing board. Actually, of all of Trump’s nominees so far, this one seems relatively sane, but that’s probably what got him crucified by inparty fighting.
Just a few other thoughts from the peanut gallery. The point here is that there’s a pattern and the pattern is due to one discernable issue: Trump’s nominees are not vetted before he nominates them — or they have been vetted but their appointment is clearly ridiculous, as in the case of Matt Gaetz. Gaetz practiced law for two years before he got into politics. He was never a prosecutor or had any of the background that normal attorney general candidates have — and that’s completely apart from anything having to do with morals, underage females, any of that.
This latest washout isn’t so spectacular but again, it shows a shortsightedness in making decisions about nominees. And we may see a lot of this. The big story now is that six Republican senators are reportedly not going to vote to confirm Pete Hegseth. That is devoutly to be wished.
Hegseth is a mess personally, and as to qualifications, he actually makes Matt Gaetz look impressive by comparison. Gaetz has at least served in Congress, whereas Pete Hegseth’s major qualification for a cabinet post is being a part time weekend host on Fox News. Hegseth has to either withdraw or go through the humiliation of the Senate refusing to confirm him. I pray it is the former.

If I understand correctly, Sheriff Chronister was named by Trump because he is married to the daughter of Edward J. DeBartolo, Jr., former owner of the SF 49ers and yuuge donor to Trump. Withdrawing himself might also be because Chronister has a son who spent time in prison for stabbing another man in the face. Knowing what could happen to his son during the confirmation process might be a loving father’s reason for withdrawal. Family values in a Republican…nice change!
