And when Matt Gaetz was nominated for Attorney General, that also made sense. It was not expected to bloom to fruition but it absolutely made sense. So now we have White House counsel Alina Habba saying how she is a fan of an indicted sex trafficker. Why not? Are you batting an eyelash? I doubt it. This is the new normal.

This is who is in the ruling class in America. And may I gently remind people that Bill Clinton was in the White House not that long ago and the fact that he had an intern give him a blow job in the Oval Office was the stuff of clutched pearls and fainting couches? Do you remember how sanctimony was the watchword of the day and oozed from the pores of all the Republicans who were shocked, I tell you, shocked?
Let’s get Newt Gingrich on the phone, shall we? Let’s ask him how shocking to the mores and family values Trump and his current crop of cronies is. Newt was beside himself with faux horror, back in the day. He went home to his pet Imperial lizards and his bleached blonde wife in shock at the testimony of the day.
A vote for Trump is a vote for degeneracy. That was always obvious. I don’t know why anybody would be shocked by anything. I was surprised and more than a bit alarmed that Trump got the audience at Madison Square Garden that he did. And you well remember the *comedian* who *joked* about the “floating island of garbage” meaning Puerto Rico, yuck yuck. That was a travesty. It was also a foreshadowing of the fall that was to come. And come it did, to the horror of half the nation, not to mention the entire rest of the world.
But that was in the final weeks to the election and so that’s the direction the political winds were blowing. The loudest voice in the room won. That’s something we need to deal with.
The entire Democratic message needs to be rebroadcast. Not retooled but re-configured in its execution because we were talking to ourselves and not reaching the electorate. The loudest voice in the room was lying about how MAGAs enemies would be deported en masse while the grocery store prices plummet — which is a Catch-22 that people were obviously too stupid to put together.
How can you deport all the farm laborers en masse — and then get the crops from the field to the market at all? Let alone at a huge discount? Answer: you can’t.
But Trump brayed that he could and only he could. What we need to see in the Democratic party is the kind of unification that the right-wing has in getting its message out. Because that was the problem.
Now we’re all collectively going to take one hell of a shellacking. And maybe there is no other way. Hard Knocks is a dear school but a fool will learn in no other. Unfortunately, while the fools are being tutored and getting their degrees the hard way, the yous and mes are getting dragged along behind the bus for the ride.
May we prevail and get through it all and turn this mess around. And let me end on this axiom: You are judged by the company you keep. Take a look at the company that Donald Trump and his coterie keep.
