Who wants to be the first to tell her that she lives in a blue state? Two blue senators and a blue vote for President Biden. Perhaps her state can carve out Atlanta and Buckhead… and Athens (Which would be terribly sad for Red Georgians who take so much pride in winning the football national championship.

It is very tempting to say, “Well, yes, this is MTG, and this is what you expect, vacuous statements with no discernment or appreciation for the multitude of difficulties. She is a lightweight, ignore her.”
There is no doubt that she’s a lightweight except she’s accrued a lot of power in the Republican party. She embodies the anti-intellectual, proudly anti-science, anti… fck, anti-everything of which Marj and DeSantis disapprove (Not that she’s aligned with DeSantis). She sees Democrats’ support for LGBTQ issues, multiculturalism, race relations, all of it as “sick” and being “shoved down their throats.”
She also calls Democrats “traitors.” Left undefined.
It sounds to me like Marj is tired of democracy. That is what they’re really upset about, that we exist and vote. She is part of a multi-generational segment of Americans who simply won’t abide by elections and live with “giving” some. In a democracy, no one gets everything they want. That is why this movement is so fascist and – this is the real point – so ready to be violent. In the same way that the Civil War was framed as “being forced to give up our culture” (Southern slavery), these forces are reawakening without the ease of states aligned against each other “North/South” in easily separated lines.
Marjorie has no idea of the danger that her words represent. Because as said above, she lives in a blue state even though she considers it red because old-school white gerrymandering keeps Georgia with a Republican governor and legislature. “White Georgia” is predominantly red, and that is all that matters to Marj. Her outrage at the belief that she is living in a country that is having the “woke” shit shoved down their throat is shared by Democrats in Florida (and there are a LOT of Democrats in Florida) who find their “culture” to be dictated from the top down. DeSantis decides what their children learn.
Move one state over, Alabama, a true red state but with liberal pockets, Tuscaloosa, areas in Birmingham, what is called “the Black Belt” (by everyone, including Black Americans), and wealthier enclaves on the Gulf Coast, where I live. Am I supposed to move in order to accommodate this “divorce”? (If I do, it will be a bee line back to Canada.)
She is drawing a line in the sand, but we cannot even draw lines in the suburbs over “red and blue,” and even though Marj knows this, it doesn’t matter. She has a fascist federal government in her tiny mind, where her MAGA values will be imposed from the top down. And she doesn’t need a state-to-state divorce IF they can capture the federal government and impose their will on everyone. Additionally, they’ve already proven themselves ready to get what they want through violence.
That is what this really gets down to. Marj is signaling a willingness to violently resist what she sees as “wrong” and “traitorous.”
Marj knows she can’t get what she wants through votes. She is using her considerable power (Over people of similar ilk) to say that you can draw your line and not budge. If the SCOTUS was 6-3 on the liberal side, you could almost count upon a governor like DeSantis ignoring their rulings… or a President DeSantis, or a President Trump. These people do not believe in laws. They only say they believe in the Constitution because it sounds nice. They do not believe in compromise, dialogue, or anything intellectual and grown-up. There is grown-up America and adolescent America. The teens have the guns.
She’s entirely oblivious to the danger in her statement.

Like Dominionists/Prosperity Gospel “Christians” and their “Holy” “Bible, for these asshats the “Constitution” they profess to believe is a carefully crafted “analysis” of a heavily edited & redacted version of the actual Constitution. The twists and contortions required to come up with and justify this bullshit is at a level that makes Circ de Soleil performers cry – in frustration over not being able to emulate!

If it weren’t such a dangerous idea, I’d say let them try. Then sit back and watch the red states fail due to lack of an industrial/manufacturing base, regressive policies, deregulation, privatization of vital services, and nonexistent social safety net. A shit-show I’d love to watch, but yeah, there’d be total chaos at home and in the world markets, and a big opening for our enemies to step right in.
