Betcha Paxton didn’t see this coming. Serves him right. When corruption tangles with honesty, and corruption wins, honesty will not sit idly by. It simply waits for the right moment to come back out. It has done so, and Ken Paxton has been put on notice. He didn’t anticipate this, and it’s going to cost him. With luck, he won’t take the Senate seat over Talarico.
They are running neck and neck at the moment. That’s a big surprise for the Republican Party. They definitely did not think Talarico had a chance. Well, then Trump pushed Paxton, and here we are. There *is* a very real chance to flip this Senate seat.
Trump will have a hissy fit and claim fraud. We can hope that the state election officials will be able to keep him away. He is going to be posting and making AI images and posting until all hours of the night and day. The problem therein is: what will he do? Call out ICE and 0demand a recount? Heck, this time around, Trump may cry fraud on every race a Democrat wins. On the other hand, it has been bandied about that Trump *wants* to lose in the midterms. That’s disturbing. It will be hard for us to get enough people on board to have a veto-proof majority.
Here we are with a Talarico ad that is going to knock Paxton out of his socks off while we move forward. Just another day at the office. My respect to Raw Story:
“This is Ken Paxton, and this is Ken Paxton firing an honest Texas Ranger,” said the ad. Here’s what happened. “David Maxwell spent five decades in law enforcement and was inducted into the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame. The best of the best. Let’s just say he knows a bad guy when he sees one. So when he saw his boss, Ken Paxton, trading favors with a convicted felon, he had to speak up” — a reference to Paxton’s deal with real estate developer Nate Paul.
“He reported Ken Paxton to the FBI and Ken Paxton fired him for it,” the ad continued. “Ranger Maxwell testified in Ken Paxton’s impeachment trial … Ken Paxton was impeached by his own party. But Ranger Maxwell isn’t done speaking up against bad guys.” “My name is David Maxwell,” the ranger said, concluding the commercial. “Ken Paxton ended my five-decade career because I blew the whistle on his corruption. I am supporting James Talarico for the U.S. Senate … He’s one of the good guys.”
We can be almost certain that Paxton was *not* expecting that. It’s something that’s rarely considered to have a staff member turn on him. And to have someone with such an amazing record makes it worse. But then, if you don’t treat your people right, don’t expect any kind of loyalty, past, present, or future. Paxton deserved this. In spades. There is absolutely no sympathy for this man.
Paxton was a horrible choice. The Republican Party is a world of hurt. And if he wins, which we sincerely hope he does not, then they’ll be in a universe of hurt. Paxton isn’t going to change if he goes to Congress. He’ll be the same cheating, corrupt person he already is. That’s going to reflect very badly on the party, which, with all the nonsense Trump is doing, they *really* don’t need. Talarico is hanging tough, running neck and neck with Paxton (currently). He’ll pull ahead. We have faith in him.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love.
