Gee, thanks, ‘President” Trump. He’s got the US into one helluva mess, and no way to get out of it. Well, he asked for it. Right now, he’s caught between a rock and a hard place. The decision has to be made either way. We can’t just keep on waiting. But there’s a problem with this, and it’s because of Trump. Indebtedness to Raw Story:

Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman has delivered a devastating assessment of Donald Trump’s Iran war: the president is steering the United States toward humiliating defeat, and the only way out requires acknowledging a loss his fragile ego will never permit.

According to Krugman, there is no viable path to reopening the Strait of Hormuz without accepting terms dictated by Iran a reality that will leave the U.S. economy held hostage to Trump’s reckless military adventurism.

Now, doesn’t that just give you warm, fuzzy feelings of confidence? … Me, neither. We lose one way or the other. We’re going to be in limbo for years if Trump doesn’t make a decision. Our Navy must be running out of things like food. And the Gerald Ford, if I recall correctly, really needs to be in a shipyard, not sitting in a blockade. We won’t get into the blockade. *ahem*

The economist described how Trump’s psychological inability to accept defeat is driving policy.

“Trump’s ego is so fragile that he can never admit losing. He cannot bear to face up to the reality that he, more or less single-handedly, led America to the greatest strategic defeat in its history.

So, he desperately wants to extract concessions from Iran that would lend him a fig leaf and allow him to claim victory,” he explained.

According to Krugman, Trump’s inner circle is amplifying the delusion and “those delusions are reinforced by the people that Trump has surrounded himself with – people who tell him how well the war is going in order to flatter his ego.

Consequently, Trump is clearly the worst informed president in modern history about the actual state of America at war.”

You can bet and win that Hegseth is doing the same – tell Trump that the war is going great to protect himself. Hegseth doesn‘t want to admit we lost, either. It would hammer his psyche and demolish his image. Hegseth is absolutely NOT going to tell him we lost. If Trump ever acknowledges the loss, Hegseth is going to be kicked out so fast he’ll look like The Flash going by. And we would celebrate that day. Trump finally saying we lost, and Hegseth kicked out? I would be running around throwing confetti. But I digress.

Iran understands America’s weakness.

Iranian leaders recognize that the Hormuz standoff is inflicting damage on both the U.S. and global economies.

The country’s leaders also know Trump faces what appears to be a major electoral defeat in November, driven by American anger over the war, its economic devastation and the president’s relentless lying.

The outcome is predetermined — unless Trump crosses into war crimes territory, Krugman added.

How will this end? Unless Trump is willing to commit massive war crimes — and the U.S. military goes along — it will end with the non-deal that was already on the table weeks ago:

America ends its blockade while Iran opens the Strait. Iran will emerge poorer but strategically stronger,” he wrote.

“And America will have suffered its worst strategic defeat in history as a result of a completely gratuitous misadventure to please Trump’s ego.”

I fervently hope he doesn’t go into war crimes territory. But if he does, Putin will be extra happy. We’ll want to crawl under the tables. We have no idea what else Trump might do, except for destroying America. He’s destroying us already. In the meantime, the Navy is stuck with a blockade, the world economy is going to hell, and we have an imbecile as the ‘leader’ of the country. Yes, I’m an American, and Trump does not speak for me.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
