We might as well laugh to keep from crying. The idea that this consummate clown, Herschel Walker, is a candidate for the United States senate is appalling. But he is and the election is in 35 days and that’s that.

Last night was a political melt down in Twitter, in real time.

Tonight we get to look at the Daily Show giving us a way to laugh at the situation — although it is far from funny. The clip below it, with Paula White, is possibly even funnier.

The bottom clip with Paula White has always put me on the floor. I have never known WHO that dude is, who keeps wandering in and out of the shot, script in hand? He’s a trainee for learning to speak in tongues, maybe? Or, an auditioning actor who got on the wrong set and nobody wants to tell him?

And isn’t the addition of the grooving cat in the foreground to screaming die for?

My hope for Georgia is that enough Independents or undecideds got swayed to voting against Walker and for Warnock. That is my hope and prayer.

The Republicans don’t care. They would put Ted Bundy on the ticket if they thought he could take back the Senate. No problemo. They flat out don’t care about anything but power. Not that this is a new revelation, but occasionally we get reminded of that fact in a very brutal way and this is one of those times.

  1. I wonder who thought that recruiting Herschel Walker was a good candidate for the senate? I’ve watched some of his clips, and I have no idea how he can keep up.

    • GOOD never, ever factored into the equation. The ONLY thing that mattered was winning back the seat for the GOP. Senator Warnock is a true Christian, and was pastor of the iconic church where Martin Luther King, Jr. once led. It also happens to be in Atlanta which is huge when it comes to GOTV efforts. Warnock is smart, scandal free and articulate – like Obama he’s not someone easily painted by GOP racists (ok, so that’s redundant!) as “scary” or a “thug” (code for the n-word with conservatives), and unlike Obama doesn’t even have a “scary sounding Muslim name.” Black voters in Georgia were going to turn out in droves for Warnock, and the inability to paint the kind of picture of him the GOP messaging machine (which has problems all over the country) would normally do meant they were in trouble. So here’s what they needed:
      1) A conservative who also (“golly gee, would you look at THAT? What a coincidence he just happens to be a black guy?”) was black – like Warnock.
      2) Popular
      3) Instant name recognition – something not easily found with black conservatives

Walker checked all three boxes. But there’s another thing, and it might prove decisive. This is the deep south, where a deep love of sports runs across any demographic you can come up with, AND where as the saying goes there are two real sports, (college) football and spring football, the latter being that period in the spring where college teams spend six weeks hard at practice and end with an intersquad spring game. Leaving aside the Georgia Bulldogs (Georgia being the state’s flagship University) national championship last year, the Georgia Bulldogs led by Heisman winner Herschel Walker were THE team in that state. Sure, once he went to the pros Walker left behind his home state (yes, he’s Georgia born and bred which made him leading the Bulldogs to greatness made him all the move beloved) like a bad dream and only “went back” to run for Senate but the sumbitch has been venerated for DECADES in that state. I swear, when he started his run for Senate if you asked an average Georgia person who they’d rather meet, Walker or their Jeebus they’d have to think hard about their answer! Sadly, a shitload of them still feel that way and not just conservatives.

That’s how deeply the love of college football runs in that state. The Atlanta Hawks (NBA), Braves (MLB) and even the Falcons (NFL) are all second fiddle to the Georgia Bulldogs and for decades Hershel Walker has been THE Georgia Bulldog!

THAT my friend is how it was decided he’d be the guy to take on Senator Warnock. Black. Conservative. And popular with universal name recognition? Off the fucking charts! THE football star/icon in the state of Georgia! It really was that simple.

The worst part is, as I noted earlier that just might prove to be enough.

  2. Our culture is sick. It’s a larger issue than one group or individual. We’ve been spoon fed a simple national story over & over. We hear it all the time. The national anthem is sung at every sporting event. “Land of the free, home of the brave”. Really? Then tell me how a rich minority that started this whole thing, still controls everything, makes rules for the masses that come down on us like panzer tanks, while the rich get away with murder. They have kept us in working poverty, gutted our educational system to keep us ignorant, rigged voting in various ways, have a propaganda TV show that calls itself news and runs 24/7, and have taken over every avenue of government. Our culture is shallow, ignorant, racist and worships money. I wonder what could go wrong?

  3. None of the people now defending Walker will say that the allegations are false. They know that they are likely true, and are just hoping nothing else comes out before the election. “Family values” don’t matter if you’re a straight male Republican.
