I’m old enough to remember when photographs showing a congressman dressed in drag, in public, would be enough to end his career, let alone that of a congressman who does nothing but diss transgender people. But Maddy Cawthorn says not to worry, he’s bulletproof, apparently. And maybe he is. I’m also old enough to remember when sodomizing a hairdresser in your basement and then beating your life and breaking your kid’s tooth would boot you from politics but Eric Greitens seems unfazed. These are the people who seek office on the Republican ticket.

Heeeere’s Maddy. Politico:

Photographs obtained by POLITICO appear to show Madison Cawthorn, the embattled Republican congressman from North Carolina who recently accused his GOP colleagues of inviting him to orgies, wearing lingerie in what appears to be a party setting.

Cawthorn, 26, was raised in a conservative Baptist community in Henderson County, North Carolina, and has staked his political persona on arch-traditional Christian principles and the insistence of the importance of a kind of hypermasculinity. His comments about “the sexual perversion” in Washington made on a podcast, which he later admitted were exaggerated, drew the public disapproval and disavowal of Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy as well as other Republican leaders including those in his North Carolina congressional caucus. […]

POLITICO could not independently verify the photos, which are screenshots of original images. They were provided to POLITICO by a person formerly close to Cawthorn and his campaign. A second person formerly close to Cawthorn and his campaign confirmed the origin of the photos. The date the photos were taken is unclear, though they appear to show Cawthorn sitting in a wheelchair, indicating the event happened after his accident. In the photos, he is wearing a distinctive pendant necklace that has appeared in other images and videos of Cawthorn. The photos have started to circulate among political rivals.

Cawthorn spokesman Luke Ball did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

After this story published, Cawthorn tweeted that the photos were taken of him during a game on a cruise before he was elected to Congress. “I guess the left thinks goofy vacation photos during a game on a cruise (taken waaay before I ran for Congress) is going to somehow hurt me? They’re running out of things to throw at me… Share your most embarrassing vacay pics in the replies.”

This is the man who wants you to know he was raised on “God and pushups.” He is a manly man, just like the men in the Bible.

I subscribe to Judeo-Christian beliefs,” he continued. “I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I think if you think about my political ideology, where it really stems from, you know, my ethics and my morals and what I think is right and wrong, you look to ancient Jerusalem, you got ancient Judeo-Christian values. So right and wrong,” he continued. “I also cling to a lot of traditional values and a lot of traditional ideas, because they’ve worked in the past.”

“I think that we have bred a generation of soft men and that generation has created a lot of problems in our society and our culture,” he said in March 2021 on a podcast “designed to reclaim and restore masculinity in a society that is ever more dismissive of what it means to be a man.”

“There’s only one God and two genders,” he said in a tweet earlier this week.

I can’t wait until Richard Burr and Thom Tillis see this. To be the proverbial fly on the wall, what I wouldn’t give.

  1. Actually, when you look at ancient Jerusalem you get JEWISH values – Jesus spent almost all of His ministry outside Jerusalem.

I do so love idiots who think they’re quoting from the Bible when, in fact, they’re doing nothing of the sort.

  2. I used up my supply of Brain Bleach so I haven’t gone looking for any to post but don’t forget none other than Rudy G. enjoyed dressing up in drag for skits at various GOP functions. To be fair it was as I said in skits meant to get laughs – nothing the least bit hush hush or private but rather “good clean fun” and all that. Still, you gotta wonder if since I think he did it multiple times he had a thing for women’s clothes!

  3. A homeschooled moron who’s a religious hypocrite & fascist. Who knew he was a cross dresser to boot? What a fucking country. These are the people in power. No need to wonder what went wrong. Our culture started wrong. Persisted in wrong. And has never come clean. Now 75 million of us can’t tell a fact from delusion. I’m sure everything will work out. Right.
