I wonder if Greg Abbott and Ron DeSantis have a bet going as to how many of their constituents they can kill with the pandemic. Do they have a racket that we don’t know about? Like being the secret owners of all the mortuaries in both states, with a kick back from florists and caterers who get hired to do funerals? Because the way things are going, that is about the only thing that is going to explain the devil may care attitude on both their parts.
Texas has just 52% of the population vaccinated at this time and Abbott’s attitude is not to double down on vaccine drives, but to double down on anti-vax efforts. His executive order bans any mask or vaccine mandates and bans anyone requesting or requiring proof of vaccination to obtain goods or services. Apparently he’s okay with the Delta variant going through the population like a threshing machine.
BREAKING: @GregAbbott_TX's latest executive order outlaws vaccine requirements from governments or entities receiving state funds.
ALSO it seems to remove local officials' ability to impose restrictions if hospitalizations go above 15% of capacity. pic.twitter.com/Z5gFkZZhk3

Based on the latest data released by @TexasDSHS, the Galveston trauma service area (TSA-R) has crossed the "high hospitalization" threshold where over 15% of its total hospital capacity is occupied by #COVID19 patients. #Texas pic.twitter.com/hntprKbvhS

This isn’t about Democrat or Republican. This is just plain recklessness.
For months, Governor Abbott has been clear: He believes that everyone has the right to infect, but that our schools and local governments must be denied the right to take important steps to protect neighbors from infection.

Abbott already had taken away cities' & counties' ability to enact & enforce mask mandates
Now Abbott's taken away the power to put restrictions on businesses, the other big tool he and local officials previously used to curb the spread of the virus

This is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Greg Abbott is way in over his head. He can’t handle the grid, he can’t handle gun control and he definitely can’t handle the coronavirus. But he’ll be up on Fox News tonight talking the talk to the faithful, on that you may depend.

If he, trump, & the gop have given themselves the right to kill us, & maybe soon our children, why, exactly, is anyone else in jail?
It would be SOOO delicious if a GOP mayor or county commission went ahead and challenged Abbott’s order and imposed their own restrictions and then said mayor/county commission took down the GOP’s whole “limited government” talking point.
And I really hope some businesses in Texas tell the governor to “funk off” (or similar wording) since, after all, the whole “Thou shalt not interfere with the workings of business” has been another of those many GOP “unwritten” commandments.
I’m sorry for all the people who will die because they can’t get vaccinated. Not won’t, but *can’t*.
About two weeks back I was often the only one wearing a mask in a store and most employees did not have masks. I think we are back up to about half the people I see indoors wearing masks. employees in most places I visit at least have a mask nearby if they are not wearing them. abbott can prattle on all he likes, people are going back to protecting themselves. The recent congressional election in n orth Texas pitted the trump candidate vs. just a normal republican. the normal republican won on election day. How did they know he was going to win, the people who showed up on election day were wearing masks.
I was at Lowe’s this morning and it looked like about half were wearing masks. Me being one of them.
Anybody who hates masking will soon discover that the ventilator tube is three times as bad.
I’ve been saying this since the beginning to the anti-mask whiners: Would you rather have a breathing tube stuck down your throat? I don’t see it as an option. I didn’t quit wearing a mask altogether, but now I’m back to full time. I just don’t want to take a chance since there are so many deluded fools out there.
Yes, after the Ventilator Tube they will LOVE wearing the mask !
Every municipality in Texas should defy the order and see how far the fine collection gets. Abbot needs his political balls cut off, and a general defiance of that idiotic order would do it. He can’t arrest everybody in the state, and I think some of his bigger donors are pretty fed up with him and his megalomania.
