Who knows, Marjorie Taylor Greene may be right? And the Grand Old Party, the Party of Lincoln doesn’t stand for anything anymore, other than the off the cuff, on the fly, batshittery policies of Donald Trump — which it was well known didn’t exist, except insofar as they reflected the worldview of the last person he spoke to on any given topic? Maybe that’s the case.

Two thoughts immediately come to mind: 1. If Trumpism is what Americans “overwhelmingly want” how did Trump manage to lose the White House and the Senate in 2020, and the House stayed in Democratic hands? Just asking.

2. Kevin McCarthy will never turn on Marjorie Taylor Greene, because it’s she that he’s afraid of — not Trump. Greene is the Trump proxy and Trump likes Greene vastly more than he likes McCarthy. Greene is safe and has it made in the shade and she knows it. She’ll take as many potshots at McCarthy as she pleases.

She talks about the GOP civil war like that was nothing. She and Matt have decided to pick up the Confederate flag and wear grey and if Cheney and Romney want to wear blue, that’s up to them. I guess we should be grateful for the clarity.

So where do we go from here, Greene and Gaetz put together a GOP uniform, brownshirts probably? Or, maybe black with lightning bolts like they had in the SS and Greene and Gaetz can start kicking in their enemies’ doors.

And you’ve got to laugh, thinking about Kevin McCarthy. Events have totally gotten beyond him. He will never even begin to catch up. He can’t oppose Greene because she’s Trump’s proxy and he can’t go against Gaetz, because he can’t oppose Greene, same refrain. McCarthy is painted tightly into the corner. It’s just a matter of how long he survives, not whether he stays in power or not. He won’t. Bets are only being taken as to how long before he resigns, or is the victim of a coup of his own.

It’s going to be a wild summer. An indictment against Gaetz may soon be coming down and he’s already tooting his horn for the GOP presidential slot in 2024. The moral of that story is that there is no right or wrong anymore. Do whatever you want, no matter how illegal or immoral it is, and whatever flack comes your way, characterize that as a witch hunt. That’s the legacy of Donald Trump. And that’s the philosophy guiding the GOP these days. What happened to conservatism? It slunk off to the elephant’s graveyard to die, apparently, with the young turks of the New GOP laughing at its death throes.

  1. The GOP think they are superior to any and all.
I wonder if Gaetz and MTG figure they can or are wannabe Hitler types?
    Interesting thoughts.

    • Hitler was a soulless, evil man, however, he did fight in a war, went to prison for trying to overthrow his government, & wrote a very long treatise on his twisted philosophy. Mattie & his date were born into privilege, never served in any army, never survived prison, & only spew mindless drivel to get the media’s attention. The only similarity is an addiction to spreading propaganda.

  2. Greene did not say what the headline implies she said. I wish I did not have to waste 41 seconds to find that out. What she actually said was bad enough, so stick with that.

  3. Actually REAL AMERICANS support neither he who shall not be named, nor conservatism! REAL AMERICANS support the legitimately elected President, Joe Biden, and Democracy! They do NOT support racism, hate, or Q-Nuts!!

    • Well, some real Americans support conservativism. Those real Americans quit the current GOP. All real Americans support the view that Biden is the legitimately elected President whether or not they support his views. On the other hand, I heard that recent polling has Biden at least 60% approval rating.

  4. Trump’s Achilles heal (well, one of many) is that he loves the admiration of female supporters (Haley, Noem, Greene, etc.) but he doesn’t take them seriously as competitors. While they profess that Trump is still the leader of the GQP, any one of them would throw him under the bus in a heartbeat to further their own ambitions. The fight over control of the party is going to get even uglier.
