We’re coming down to the wire on the next phase of As The GOP Turns, the compelling soap opera where you watch the purported Party of Lincoln commit political seppuku over and over again in real time and you wonder when it will finally die.
This Wednesday, either you will see Kevin McCarthy take a samurai sword to Liz Cheney, or you will see Kevin McCarthy kneel on his pillow and plunge a dagger into his own heart. Or, you might very well see both.
Mitt Romney, who has issues with censure votes of his own, chimed in, and color this useless — but it was nice of Mitt to show up.
Expelling Liz Cheney from leadership won’t gain the GOP one additional voter, but it will cost us quite a few.

The reason this is blowing by McCarthy, completely unnoticed, is that he needs to get rid of Liz Cheney so she won’t keep bugging everybody about a 9/11-type commission on January 6, which is only going to bury him and his political director, Brian Jack.
Also, McCarthy is of the opinion that this will swell the ranks of MAGA world, somehow. Who knows, maybe he’s right? In all events, we’re going to find out soon enough.
Here’s McCarthy’s letter to his fellow Republicans, which is already getting mocked far and wide. Oh yeah, open tent, that’s this year’s GOP alright. Umm, hmmm.
?? BREAKING: @GOPLeader has sent a letter about recalling @Liz_Cheney.
"Having heard from so many of you in recent days, it’s clear that we need to make a change. As such, you should anticipate a vote on recalling the Conference Chair this Wednesday.” pic.twitter.com/P0Euyl2wM3

Mitt might be right. A lot of disgruntled Republicans began to weigh in.

A fear which is well grounded, especially considering Gaetz has been trolling the electorate out west.

There we go with standing on principle again. A rational enough idea, to be sure, but not when speaking of the GOP of 2021.

This schism which is widening in the GOP is causing people to call for a third party. I don’t see it happening that way. I see an attempted purge, and depending upon whether Cheney stands or falls, the purge may stop and McCarthy will have purged himself.
This is going to be an interesting next few days. We are watching history being made.
McCarthy evidently believes that pushing the Big Lie is the way to go and absolutely Stefanik believes it. And McCarthy does not want anybody looking too closely at the January 6 riot at the Capitol because that will only expose him for the liar that he is. So Wednesday’s vote is far more than a tiff between two opposing forces in the GOP, it’s very likely to dictate the direction of the party for some time to come.

I read McCarthy’s statement. So much bullshit packed into a single page! Leaders, at least good and effective ones lead. Sometimes that requires saying and/or doing things that those being led don’t understand or like, or outright object to. McCarthy and his little missive, especially taken along with other stuff he’s done to suck up to the flaming orange human shaped rectum aka Donald J. Trump prove he is a weak person and leader.
Not that he’d know or give a shit but MLK once said a true leader is not a seeker of consensus but a molder of it. It of course helps if one works to mold the PROPER consensus. But that’s sometimes the more difficult option and McCarthy has chosen the path of least resistance. Again, that proves my point about what a weak leader he is.
The flat earth society vs gravity. I used to skydive. Go up high enuf & it’s very easy to forget u are falling at 120mph. It’s very pleasant 4a while. Of course, gravity reminds you there are no exceptions to its rule: all illusions stop at ground level. Dirt doesn’t lie.
Mitt seems to be a slow learner.
Succeed or fail, Wednesday’s vote will do nothing to stop the self-destruction of the alleged Party of Lincoln.
“McCarthy does not want anybody looking too closely at the January 6 riot at the Capitol because that will only expose him for the liar that he is.”
Very true. Just replay what he DID say back then, over & over again.
Then add in Stefanik’s FRAUDIT support.
BTW, how come FRAUDIT has disappeared from MSM coverage? Anyone think this “little tiff” is yet another distraction?
1/6 was a walk in the park compared to Portland, the BLM 2020 riots, etc. There was never any unarmed insurrection, that’s laughable. The democrats are just throwing money at everything. That won’t solve problems. Nothing is being done that will make things any better. Same old, same old, same old from Democrats, put a ring in your nose and give the rope to the EU, makes me laugh.
It appears to me that the real problem is Lyn. Any problem she had should have been kept within the party not on leftwing tv shows. I she wants to make a name for herself, make it in the Democrat party of slavery. Trump did more for America than any other Republican since Reagan. But he didn’t do it “their” way and when he needed support, they turned their backs on the only Republican willing to go to to toe with the socialist democrats. Say what you want, but the Republicans need to buck up and start slapping Democrats every day.
