And very much not in a good way. He’s been busted for speaking his real thoughts on an issue, and it is not a smart thing for him or for the committee he chairs. He is up for re-election since he won his primary. It seems unlikely we could flip his seat. It’s Kentucky, after all. With appreciation for Raw Story:

Political analysts and observers referred to a GOP lawmaker as a racist” after he made remarks that seemed to reveal his thinly veiled thoughts. Rep. James Comer (R-KY) spoke about Medicaid fraud during a Fox News interview, where he said, “What we’re seeing, especially in the blue states, is there is rampant fraud, especially in the minority communities.” He added, “The only way we’re going to stop is if people are put in jail.”

Heh. He only mentioned blue states. The chances are just as great for the red states, but Comer thinks it’s only the blues. And then the minority communities crack, yes, that was racist, alright. It seems pretty clear. Could his opponent make use of it? We need to have a really good campaign for his opponent, even in Kentucky, and this will help us do so. It’s not as cringeworthy as one of Trump’s ramblings, but geez, dude.

Commentators reacted to Comer’s comments with disgust, accusing him of making a not-too-subtle racist remark.

“Ah yes, the black people! (sic) of course!” Alex Cole, a progressive news personality, wrote.

James Comer, fraudster and rank racist,” reacted Norman Ornstein, a political scientist and contributing editor for The Atlantic.

When they write about how America collapsed, it will be because we allowed one of our political parties to get away with this sh—,” wrote Rachel Bitecofer, a national political analyst and pollster.

Remember in the pre-Trump era where they were subtle?” asked political writer Zaid Jilani.

Here he is saying it out. ‘Especially in the minority communities,'” former U.S. ambassador Luis Moreno posted. “Folks like Donald Trump Jr., Bankman-Fried, Brett Favre, nearly all of the white-collar fraudsters pardoned by Trump would like a word.”

They are not even trying to mask it,” agreed writer and editor Keith Murphy.

No, they aren’t, or he isn’t. We’ve only heard this nonsense from Comer and Vance so far. Is it possible for more Republicans to come out with crap like this? It could have flown under the radar. The day before yesterday, Comer made his feelings clear. This is disgusting. This is working up to Trump-level disgusting. What else is going to crawl out of the woodwork?

See you tomorrow!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. I was involved in an Indivisible group in western Kentucky and we followed that weasel from town hall to town hall. This was during the first orange turd’s time in DC. Comer, in one of his diatribes, he never really answered questions, did everything but use the N word. It was revolting. This man is not to be trusted in any way.
