Bari Weiss and Poppy and Junior Ellison can deny it all they want but the cold, hard fact is she was installed at CBS News to destroy the institution forged by Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite. Now, with the Ellison’s Paramount about to gain Trump admin approval for a merger with Warner which owns CNN word is the Ellisons are so thrilled with Weiss they want to put her in charge of CNN too!
That should terrify anyone who believes in the First Amendment and the concept of journalists being able to accurately report the news instead of kissing the fat orange butt of a certain wannabe dictator. (Hint, his name rhymes with RUMP) However according to Raw Story Weiss’ bosses think she’s been doing such a ‘fantastic job’ at (or rather on) CBS they want to give her a major promotion – once their get their slimy hands on CNN:
Bari Weiss could be taking over the editorial leadership of another news network.
Paramount has begun preliminary conversations with several top media executives about a business-side counterpart to Weiss, the CBS News editor-in-chief, as the company awaits regulatory approval of its proposed merger with Warner Bros. Discovery, two sources familiar with the matter told Axios.
“The search implies that if Paramount Skydance’s deal with Warner Bros. Discovery goes through, Weiss would oversee all news editorial across both CBS News and CNN,” Axios reported. “Her potential counterpart would manage business operations across both companies.”
The linked article is a short read. It names other potential candidates to run CNN but let’s be real. The fact this business about Weiss is already in the news means she’s the in the driver’s seat. Recent rumors she was being considered for a ‘demotion’ of sorts have proven in the last week to be unfounded. The mass firings of most of the top people at venerable 60 minutes haven’t generated a peep from either Ellison. Well, as I said Weiss is doing exactly what she was hired to do.
Let’s take a moment to look at whan Weiss has done. She installed a bland, whitebread doofus (Tony Dokoupil) as anchor of the CBS Evening News and the ratings tanked just like everyone figured they would. It’s in a distant third to ABC and NBC. Unfortunately her mandate also included destroying the most successful (by far) TV news magazine in history. 60 Minutes was a ratings and money gold mine for the network. From the beginning Weiss has talked about ‘bringing it into the 21st century by adding online content. Except 60 Minutes has been doin that already. They established a solid presence on YouTube and I saw Pelly pointing out they also post clips on Tik Tok as well. It’s my understanding there’s more and they were already looking into how to expand digital/streaming. In other words the “problem” was well on the way to being fixed.
Well, despite that it’s the cover story for putting Weiss who had ZERO experience with TV news in charge of the the Gold Standard for television news. This is the network that gave us the legendary Edward R. Murrow. Then Walter Cronkite, who held the title of ‘Most Trusted Man In America.’ Following those two was impossible but Dan Rather came about as close as someone could. Rather was also part of getting 60 Minutes launched. It was revolutionary and year after year, decade after decade it delivered in a way no other news show could match. Just as importantly despite the major production costs 60 Minutes delievered a healthy profit to the network. It was a flagship program.
Given all that just who the f**k does Bari Weiss who as I said had no experience with network news think she is to come in and say they were doing it all wrong? What the hell does SHE know? In a way it’s quite Trumpian. She was hired for LACK of qualifications but with loyalty to her benefactors who’s loyalty is to Trump. The Ellisons bought the CBS brand label with every intention of milking what money they could from it for a while, while at the same time sacrificing quality and putting out an inferior product for as long as they could get away with doing so. Then, when the public realized “New Coke” sucked (remember that fiasco?) or that the stuff in the box was junk made overseas they’d sell everything off for parts.
In the meantime scrutiny of Trump that might afford a chance to hold him to account would be token at best. Now they want Weiss to do to CNN what she’s done to CBS and they’re in a hurry to ‘git er done’ because the midterms are coming up. Where it matters even more is IF Mother Nature keeps shirking her duties and Trump lives until 2028 he clearly intends to either run again or put one of his “Fredo” sons (Don Jr. or Eric) into the WH and feed them instructions. Just like he does with the Trump Org. When you consider ABC caved to Trump (like CBS did) and gave him millions to settle a bogus lawsuit who knows? The Ellisons might make a play to take over that network too! It’s not like the Trump administration would block them from doing so.
Bari Weiss is riding high these days, full of herself and her power. History however is harsh and though it might take a while what she’s done and will do will be brutal to her. Instead of praises about her being a visionary she’ll be regarded by history for what she is – a greasy smeared turd stain in Trump’s fake gold toilet.
For now, I hope a couple of insanely rich dudes like Bill Gates and Michael Bloomberg have a sit down with now retired Warren Buffett and figure out how to create a new news network. There’s an awful lot of talent from CBS available and more will soon be. Add to that talent from CNN that’s going to be looking for jobs and the potential is there to create something new and special.
