Just when you think she’s quieted down, she hasn’t. Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has strong opinions and strong reasons to speak out. She came from a fairly humble background and has been coming into her own since she started in Congress. Many people don’t agree with her, but that’s what it’s all about. Everyone deserves their turn, their thoughts, and their opinions. Respect to Raw Story:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has gone from being considered a far-left backbencher when she was first elected in 2018, to one of the Democratic Party’s most prominent rising stars — and with that has come swirling questions and rumors about whether she plans to seek higher office.

We’ve had a woman run for president twice, both times losing to Trump. Is it too soon to try again? After the debacle that has been Trump 2, only this far in his term, and likely to continue, will there be backlash and a possibility, again, of a woman president? That’s too far in the future and too far to try to figure out. Right now, we just don’t know.

Former Barack Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod asked her about precisely that during an interview at the University of Chicago Institute of Politics — and she gave an answer that wowed many observers.  “There are a lot of people who would like you to run for president in 2028,” said Axelrod. “And there are others who would like you to run for the Senate.”

“In this op-ed that Bezos paid for in The Washington Post, there was a veiled threat — it was the elite saying if you want this job, you just stepped out of line,” said Ocasio-Cortez. “What’s funny about that is they assume my ambition is positional. They assume my ambition is a title or a seat. My ambition is way bigger than that. My ambition is to change this country. Presidents come and go, elected officials come and go, single payer healthcare is forever.”

Yeowtch. That was direct. Other countries have single payer. Why don’t we? Insurance companies. They don’t want to lose the cash cows they have by a captive population. They don’t care about forcing people into debt to pay for their health, which is only going to make both things worse. We are caught between a rock and a hard place. No wonder she is so outspoken on the subject. She listens to the people, not the insurance companies.

This answer caused a massive stir among commenters on social media.

“Pope Leo XIV repeatedly states that health care is a universal human right,” wrote religion commentator and former Democratic National Committee delegate Christopher Hale.

“Probably the best answer anyone has given to this question … in a very, very long time,” wrote former Biden administration press secretary and MS NOW host Jen Psaki.

“Well that’s one of the most compelling answers to that question I’ve ever heard,” wrote former Obama speechwriter and podcaster Jon Favreau.

“The reason Republicans are so freaked out by @AOC is because they know when normie Americans of any party hear her speak like this, they all agree with her,” wrote Zeteo News editor-in-chief Mehdi Hasan.

Yuh huh. Anyone who ignores her because she is female has another thing coming. She’s smart, well spoken, and her appearance doesn’t hurt, no matter what she’s doing. Single-payer healthcare. What a thought.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. I would love to see it, but fear for her chances.
It seems that (besides Obama) this country wants old white dudes for president
Maybe she can catch lightning in a bottle like Obama did, she certainly wouldn’t be the disappointment that he was.

Small grammar Nazi thing: the phrase is “has another *think* coming”
