There is unrest in the state of Wisconsin these days. The special elections did not go as expected or planned, and some people are Very Upset about it. And the best part, natch, is that it’s Republicans. They continue to believe they can skate along with their orange tin god and not have to actually work at elections. They are so wrong, and they continue to be wrong. Aww. We feel so bad for them because we’re good people, right? Ha. Thanks to Politico via and also to Raw Story:
The chair of the Wisconsin Republican Party, Brian Schimming, is facing calls to resign after a disastrous performance in the latest state Supreme Court race. According to Politico, “Tuesday night’s state Supreme Court race saw liberal judge Chris Taylor trounce conservative appeals court judge Maria Lazar by a margin of more than 20 points. The scope of that defeat in the closely divided swing state — the latest in a string of recent GOP losses — is fueling calls from a growing number of party insiders that the affable Schimming, a longtime fixture in local Republican politics, should step down from his post at the top of the party.
Oops. Don’t shoot the messenger. Could it really *all* be his fault? No. But he’s visible, and thus is the first person to attack. He’s an easy target. They do not want to believe they lost due to multiple errors on their parts, not just his. Therefore, they’re looking for a scapegoat, not realizing it won’t make any difference. What’s done is done. They should be looking to the future, not whining about the past.
Supreme Court races in Wisconsin are nominally nonpartisan, but in practice, each party always chooses a candidate. Democrats’ endorsed candidate has won in the last four consecutive races, swinging control of the court to a 5-2 advantage for liberals and leaving some GOP strategists despairing that it basically doesn’t matter if they win statewide anymore.
“The dissent is bubbling ahead of critical November elections that will see voters choose Wisconsin’s next governor — and a wide open 2028 presidential race where Wisconsin will once again be one of the nation’s top battlegrounds,” noted the report. “Schimming’s departure, his critics say, would mark the first step in a long road to revitalizing the state’s GOP political apparatus — once dubbed the ‘Seal Team Six of the Republican Party’ — that’s now seen as woefully lacking in fundraising capacity.”
Hmmm. Perhaps they should be grateful this election opened their eyes so they’ll finally start working on the governor’s race. *We* would be perfectly happy if they didn’t. The sloppier they are, the better our chances. But winning the state supreme court position and one other, it shows that constituents are rebelling all over the place. This continues the blue flip saga. It seems that detesting Trump and what he (doesn’t) stand for is really starting to show. We just need to support our “flip” winners and have them show they are different and really do stand for the people of America.
One state party executive, Ken Sikora, bluntly told Politico, “As a leader, he’s failed.” Another party official said, “While all of us had high hopes, I think the time has run out. And it’s time we go a different direction for the sake of our philosophy.” Ever since Trump has headed up the GOP, the party’s committees in key states have faced struggles, and the issue isn’t just contained to Wisconsin. For instance, in the lead-up to 2024, even though Trump was ultimately successful in Arizona, it came despite the state party facing a hollowing out of talent and massive financial difficulties.
I had forgotten that about Arizona. I have too much of the wrong kind of information in my head because I’m remembering events after I’ve been “refreshed” on them. That’s embarrassing and unhelpful. But back on topic, we continue to see (most) Republicans underperform and Democrats blowing them out of the water. Even the Georgia race for MTG’s spot was impressive, although the Democrat lost. There was slightly over a 10-point difference, which in a red state and a red district is nothing to sneeze at. I just want Democrats to do what they’ve said they will. That will make *everyone’s* life better.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of elderly, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

Your “… They continue to believe they can skate along with their orange tin god and not have to actually work at elections…” is possibly indicative and suggestive of ‘being entitled’ for ‘all the wrong reasons’ and now they’re getting a dose of karma by being punted, on a plate served cold, one at a time. Delicious, isn’t it.
Oh it’s *so* delicious! It could use a little heat here and there – as in holding their feet to the flames and letting said flames get a good start.
Your comments *always* make me both laugh and think.
