I’m a bit early today, but I had to get this out to you, because my, my, my. It does seem that more and more people are turning against Dumba$$ Donnie. The host of CPAC had his hair, such as it is, blown back when he asked the audience a question. The answer was far from what he was expecting. This is entertaining. Thank you, Raw Story:
Conservative activist and lobbyist Matthew Schlapp was left speechless Friday after attempting to “hype up” the crowd at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) conference in Texas, only for the effort to backfire spectacularly. “How many of you would like to see impeachment hearings?” Schlapp asked the massive crowd at the annual conservative event. To Schlapp’s surprise, a wave of cheers erupted from the crowd.
Okay, we don’t know who the audience was thinking of, but it actually could have been for Trump. There are a lot of people on the right-wing side who are angry with him, so it could very well have been when they were thinking. I’m not sure if anyone in his ‘cabinet’ could be impeached, although there have been discussions about Pam Blondi. But wow, did that take Schlapp by surprise.
“No,” Schlapp responded, shaking his head and smiling awkwardly. “That was the wrong answer. Let me try it again: how many of you would like to see impeachment hearings?” Schlapp’s second attempt garnered a more mixed response, with some still cheering while others booed. Schlapp again laughed off the unexpected response. “Can someone bring some coffee out for the people at CPAC?” he said.
Gosh and golly, now why would he say that? Seems perfectly obvious that the crowd was truly expressing their opinions. If anything, Trump should be the one feeling embarrassed, though yes, it was awkward for Mr. Schlapp. He certainly did get an answer. This is something, because it was my impression that CPAC is for the “serious” conservatives. We’re not discussing MAGA here. These are the ones who try to get things done, whether or not we like it. I could be wrong. But this column is about reactions, not conversations or presentations.
CPAC was founded in 1974, with President Ronald Reagan delivering the organization’s first-ever inaugural keynote speech. It has held regular annual conferences in years since, with President Donald Trump delivering a speech at the organization’s conference in 2024. Schlapp, 58, has long been involved in Republican politics, having served as President George W. Bush’s deputy assistant. Schlapp previously served as CPAC’s chair, and currently runs a lobbying firm with close ties to the Trump administration.
Hmmm, if he’s used to lobbying, it could have been why he was the host. One could assume he’s used to speaking. So, this year was a surprise for him. And we applaud for impeachment, too. I’m still giggling, imagining the expression on his face when the audience cheered. It warms the cockles of my mean little heart.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

“CPAC was founded in 1974, with President Ronald Reagan delivering the organization’s first-ever inaugural keynote speech. It has held regular annual conferences in years since, . . . .”
Not sure who wrote this for “Raw Story,” but, man, have journalistic standards really sunk so low. For starters, if the year is correct then the wording should’ve been “FUTURE President . . .” since Reagan wouldn’t be elected until 1980. And secondly, “regular annual conferences in years since” is a bit redundant as an “annual” conference means it’s held “every year” which is also pretty “regular.”
I could also take some issue with the “first-ever inaugural keynote speech” as “inaugural” does mean “first” and it suggests CPAC has a bunch of “keynote speeches” (which would go against the meaning of a “keynote speech”) but I don’t believe that’s the intended meaning here.
Wow, am I embarrassed now. I guess I need better standards. Thanks for the information!
My gut reaction is, those who were “for” impeachment had someone else in mind — specifically Biden. Lord knows, the whole admin keeps blaming Biden for their failures, so the base might think that’s the logical person to impeach.
What he *should* have said was, “Do we want to see impeachment proceedings against President Trump?” Then he might have gotten the reaction he expected. As it is, he left it gapingly open to interpretation from all sides, which makes it entertaining for the onlookers.
