It seems that a whole lot of Republicans see the writing on the wall for the upcoming midterms. They are in VERY bad order with their constituents. It’s going to be an uphill struggle for them to keep their seats, with the usual places not expected to flip. We can still make them sweat. The question everyone is considering is where to put the money. Which candidates need the boost? MAGA Mikey thinks everything is going to be Just Fine. He’s wearing some thick-lensed rose-colored glasses. Respect to Raw Story:

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) confidently proclaimed this week Republicans will retain their majority in this year’s midterm elections — but as MS NOW congressional reporter Mychael Schnell told anchor Katy Tur, he appears to be the only one in the House Republican caucus who believes it.

Don’t bet against him, Speaker Mike Johnson says, but is he the only one feeling that confident about his party’s prospects in November?” said Tur. “The war with Iran, general frustration among the MAGA base, and the president’s low approval numbers are all weighing the GOP down. One lawmaker, who requested anonymity, told MS NOW, quote, ‘No one thinks we’re keeping the majority except for the speaker.”

Ouch. All the other House Republicans, at least, do NOT think they are going to keep the majority. They see the Blue Wave rolling across the country in these state elections. They have the weight of the country on their shoulders, and there’s just *so* much going wrong. Now, to attempt to be fair, if this were happening on our watch, it’s extremely likely we would be in the Republicans’ position right now.

“There [were] some choice words used among some Republicans to each other about why they believe they will lose the majority,” said Tur, turning to Schnell. “Tell me more about that.” “Yeah, Katy, I was down in Doral, Florida, at the beginning of this week for the House Republican retreat, and the message that we kept hearing from leadership, including Mike Johnson right there in that clip, is that they are confident Republicans are going to retain their majority in the House come the November midterm elections,” said Schnell. “I then delved into the House GOP conference to actually ask members if they agreed.” The consensus, she found, is that “leadership is being rosy.”

They have to be rosy in public. Behind closed doors is a completely different matter. And it seems it actually *is* a different matter. It’s challenging to keep the energy up when the news is negative. It’s nearly always negative these days, especially since we and Israel started the damn war. War is not good for either side of the conflict. And we know Putin is helping Iran, which is just the poisonous icing on the cake. You have to wonder how Dunderhead Donnie feels about *that*.

His problems are worse than those of the average Republican. His MAGAts are turning against him, and doing so publicly. He’s trying to make it look like we’ve already won the war with Iran, except we haven’t. His signature issues are not going well. People are pissed about the whole DHS brutality and killings. We could bet he wasn’t expecting that because it was supposed to be his close the border, kick illegals out schtick. It backfired ferociously. The economy and gas prices are wretched. No one believes him when he says everything is fine. And *this* will reflect on Republicans, too.

“It really all comes back to the fact that Republicans don’t feel like they have enough to run on,” said Schnell. “Yes, last year they did pass that sprawling reconciliation bill with tax cuts and a lot of money for the military and other areas as well. It also included those Medicaid cuts that we spoke so much about that passed last summer. And since then, Republicans have had trouble messaging it, selling it to voters back home, and seeing a bump in the polls that they hope they would as a result.” Ultimately, Schnell said, Republicans see the midterms as “make or break,” as a Democratic win of either chamber would shut down any legislative prospects for Trump’s agenda and likely guarantee another impeachment.

If only we could impeach him and make it stick this time. If only. November is a long time away, and anything can happen between now and then. That’s what worries me. It’s more of a “what else can go wrong?” rather than Republicans suddenly becoming wildly popular. Back before Dingbat Donnie became president again, we had no idea what the future held. Now, we do. Yuck.

No Kings Protest March 28! See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

Impeachment is not a procedure that was designed to have any real power if the impeached person is not removed from office. And that means 2/3 of Senators have to vote “guilty.”

    • Hence, make it stick. It’s the uphill battle in the Senate part. We don’t know whether we have any brave Republicans there.

  2. go ahead and hit thumbs down now but i’ll say it anyway. mikey was one of the very few to predict republicans holding the house last time around but he was right. if he knows something he isn’t shsring even with his own caucus it probably hss to do with pkans trump had to interfere with the elections. another issue is that boters still aren’t happy with democrats. it’s true that being in the minority hampers our ability to stop trump but there are also dems, mostly in the senate, who have actively been helping hid efgorts. that’s counter productive.

    • I see no reason to hit thumbs down. You have information and knowledge I didn’t. And if there’s a chance he’s right on this, I’m *extremely* worried about it. No, I don’t like it, but yes, Dems have been helping him instead of fighting back. This concerns me because if we do have the election and do grab the House, at least, will we be able to do anything with it? A more powerful leader would be a start. Same for the Senate, even if we don’t flip it.
