It’s been quite a week, particularly yesterday and today, but here’s something *else* good for all of us, or the smart half of the country. Yes, you read the title correctly, and yes, it’s honestly going to happen. No idea who (or what) got to Jim Jordan, but *something* did. He was swearing up and down that Jack *could not* have a public hearing, except now he can. Let’s not look a gift horse in the mouth and all those little sayings. We’ll take it! With thanks to Raw Story:

Former special counsel Jack Smith was expected to provide testimony in a live hearing before the House Judiciary Committee, reporting suggests. The live hearing could take place as early as February, according to CBS News. Smith’s prosecution of Donald Trump was shuttered after the president was re-elected in 2024.

Yea, we all know Trump ran for President to stay out of jail. Otherwise, he’d be looking at us behind either steel bars or bulletproof glass. He’s not been happy that he still had to work, not just sleep, text rants, and play golf. Kinda surprised he didn’t start complaining he had hurt his arm with all the EOs he’s been signing *rolls eyes* From the statements we have read or been told about thus far, yea, Trump would be in jail, no matter how “Loose” Cannon was trying to prevent it. Yes, that would be me being vindictive.

“Even with many hours of private testimony, Republicans could not lay a glove on Jack Smith, his evidence, or his case,” ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-MA) stated. “That will not change now that they have finally heeded our call to have him come testify publicly. This upcoming hearing is a win for truth-seeking Americans.” Smith requested an open hearing in a letter to the House Judiciary Committee last month.

Yes, that would be House Judiciary wimping out. They were probably afraid of being exposed in a hearing, or didn’t want to battle Trump over it. We all know that Trump was/is not going to come out well in this. But we have the transcript and the video of that closed-door interview. (I wrote about those shortly after they were released, so no need to rehash them now. And again, thanks to the readers who so kindly gave me more information.) It just occurred to me that smarter people than I were wondering why they fought so hard to keep it behind closed doors. What were they afraid of?

“During the investigation of President Trump, Mr. Smith steadfastly followed Justice Department policies, observed all legal requirements, and took actions based on the facts and the law,” Smith’s attorneys wrote. “He stands by his decisions.” The former special counsel has also testified in a deposition for the House Oversight Committee. At the time, committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) declined to convene a public hearing.

Lawd have mercy, why are all the Republicans in top committees such … such wimps? Certainly, this strength has come from the Republicans who are retiring, but they have shown that it *is* possible to push back against Trump. So, why won’t they push? Why are the majority of Republicans in Congress, like Moses Mikey Johnson, afraid to even look at Trump a different way? We could theorize on this for not just days, but weeks, and still not figure out what they are afraid of.

Trump is just one man!!! Jack Smith is an exponentially better man. He knows the law and has experience to back it up. He would have followed the *law* on his investigations and kept personal feelings out of it. That’s the way any lawyer should be. Truly now, what in the hell are Republicans so afraid of that they wanted to hide Jack and his testimony behind closed doors?

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. As I stated once before, Jack Smith is playing thee dimensional chess while the republicans are learning tic tac toe, because they think that’s the game they’re playing.

And then they proceed to playing it, while the slightly smarter ones amongst them argue they’re really playing checkers.

    • Allison Gill is top-notch. She has several excellent podcasts that are worth subscribing to. She is “a veteran, a Ph.D., a former government executive, a comedian, an author, and a staunch advocate for the democratic resistance.” according to her website.

Current shows I never miss are:
“The Daily Beans” with Dana Goldberg
      “Unjustified” with Andrew McCabe
“Clean-up on Aisle 45” with Harry Dunn

Older podcasts are “Mueller She Wrote” where she followed the intersection of Mueller and our Corrupt Dear Leader and her esteemed “Jack” podcast that closely chronicled Jack Smith’s investigation of the same Corrupt Dear Leader.
