A New York Times author wrote quite an article and showed us what will be remembered as the Time of Trump. It’s unsettling. It shows how far down we’ve come from a democracy that used to be For The People. Now, it isn’t. Now, it’s for the lucky few to be in power (see: Republicans) (and see: Trump). They have remade our democracy in their own image, that’s out for whatever they can get, and if their neighbor can’t get it, too bad. It’s about the me’s, and not the we’s.
There is hope. The protests showed us that. There are strong people in Congress who are not going to take this Trump-enabled bullsh!t. They are also speaking out. Look at the tour with AOC and Bernie Sanders, with people of all sizes and shapes, with those Republicans who were curious about what the hoorah is about. The crowds got bigger and bigger. Jasmine Crockett (who is one of my favorite people) is also speaking out, and she does so publicly. There is hope. From Raw Story:
The recent young Republican group chat scandal is bigger than you think, according to a conservative. New York Times columnist David French, a former writer for the conservative National Review, wrote an article on Sunday called “Trump Is Dragging Us Down to His Level” in which he argues, Donald Trump has a role in the major GOP scandal that saw young professionals engaging in racist and sexist behavior. “There’s a larger story here,” French wrote. “When you combine all the elements — yet another Republican racism scandal, death wishes from a Democratic politician, Vance’s decision to excuse the inexcusable — you can see the ways in which 10 years of Trumpism have twisted the American soul.”
And mercy, they are more twisted than we know about, because not that much gets publicized. There is a lot that happens behind closed doors. We can be certain of that. Twisted the soul. Look at MAGA. Look at how Democrats have turned into scapegoats. We’re fighting against the wind, trying to hold our line.
We’ve been so “oh poor pitiful me” because we lost the election. We need to start working towards midterms *now*. This writer has only seen one Democrat starting now. Where are the rest? Get our message out. Get a jump on Republicans. Remind the people of this country that we are here and fighting back. We are fighting for *them*.
The columnist continued: “I know very well that there were corrupt and venal politicians and political staff members before Donald Trump. I know that America has endured periods of more extreme anger and polarization than we’re enduring today (and not just in and around the Civil War). But we’re currently trapped in a dynamic that is tempting many millions of Americans to indulge their worst impulses.” According to French’s essay, “Every year, more Americans are coming of political age in this dreadful time. By the time Trump leaves office in 2029, he will have been the dominant American political figure for roughly 14 years — since the weeks after he announced his first run for president and surged to the top of Republican primary polls.”
Wow. 14 YEARS. We will have been stuck with this guy for 14 years! History is not going to look kindly on this decade and a half. The decade plus of “all for me, none for thee”. This time period is worse than all of our history. Just think of all the reasons why. How about a president who is so corrupt and so powerful (read: thanks, Congress and SCOTUS)? If (when!) we change to a Democratic president, s/he is going to have one hell of a mess to clean up. Where do they start? Kicking Putin’s ass would be the right place, oh yeah, and *finally* helping Ukraine, which is in a war they did not start. And they’re still fighting back! But anyhow, to close:
“That means 14 years of escalating political stakes. That means 14 years of politics that push the best people out of public life. That means 14 years of Trump as the model of the most successful politician of the era. At the end of that time, what will remain?” he asked Sunday. “The story of this past week is the story of this past year. It’s the story of this decade. If your political opponents represent ultimate evil, then the only morality left is the morality of victory. The only true sin is the sin of defeat.”
We *can* come back. We *can* be victorious. We *can*. Call your Congresspeople, no matter if it’s state or the US. Remind them of this. Can’t remember the commercial, but the tag, the hook, was “Yes, we can!” There’s not much hope for Republicans. They’ve patterned their intro from Trump’s schtick, and won’t want to lose their power. But Democrats? Yes, we can!
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

I really don’t see him making it to 2029 (I have doubts on 2026).
Would have preferred to see him die in prison, but I will take in office as a plan B
Just get him outta there. I was hoping for prison for a convicted felon. And Jack Smith mentioned that he *would* have been convicted for the insurrection. That’s impressive. He was *that* confident, which says something to you and me and the country. Of course, Trump would have appealed, but still. Jack was that certain. I really need to go read his report. Anyhow, just get him out.
