Substitute the word “worst” for “best” when considering Trump’s claim about only having ‘The very best people’ and Looney Laura Loomer is on any list for being the Poster Child. It’s an infuriating tragedy she has the influence she does. That influence has gotten terrific people and public servants fired because she’d proclaim they weren’t TOTALLY loyal to Trump. Now she’s trashing a guy who was awarded the Medal Of Honor, and putting both Hegseth and Trump in an awkward position.
Mediaite reports Loomer went on a rant against Army Secretary Dan Driscoll for a tribute to Medal of Honor recipient Florent Groberg. It seemed like a natural thing for Driscoll to do to make note of the anniversary of the incident for which Groberg was honored. Groberg had after all continued in public service under Presidents of both Parties. Now a civilian he still sits on a commission in fact. It will be interesting to see for how much longer.
Let’s go back to August, 2012. Then Capt. Groberg saw what he correctly assumed to be a suicide bomber about to attack. He ran to the danger to use himself as a human shield to protect fellow soldiers, knocking him off his intended path. While four soldiers including a Command Sgt. Major died injuries to others were if not avoided were at least made far less than they would have been. Groberg miraculously survived albeit with life-altering injuries. So yes, willingness to sacrifice his own life to protect other soldiers makes him a worthy MOH recipient.
Not to Looney Loomer however. First of all the guy was born in France. FRANCE. Ok, so he’d wind up becoming a U.S. Citizen but he was (oh the ‘horror’!!!) a freaking immigrant! And France has long been derided by conservatives. Remember Bush 43 years when they decided to try and rebrand ‘French Fries’ as ‘Freedom Fries?’ (GOPers actually got the name changed on menus at the Capitol dining room) But to Loomer’s batshit-crazy mind Groberg committed a far WORSE sin. He spoke for about a minute at the 2016 Democratic National Convention!
At the time Groberg took conservative flak, as they accused him of being a Democrat. In actuality he told organizers who invited him to speak about service and immigrants being beneficial to our country he was a Republican. (He’s remained a registered Republican) However they weren’t asking him to advocate for Clinton, just talk about things he believed in like service to our country and that immigrants make valuable contributions. The non-partisan remarks he actually made did just that and nothing more. It’s actually common for both Parties to find such speakers to fill time between major addresses by the actual political folks.
That was still too much for some conservatives then, and it sure as hell is way more than enough now for Loomer to go on the attack:

You’d think that the US Army of all places would actually invest in some proper vetting, but nope. Inadequacy, screw ups, and zero political knowledge of anything in the Trump era is totally accepted by many in this admin.
Under the Army Secretary Dan Driscoll @SecArmy, there have been several instances of either him, or the Army promoting anti-Trump Leftists on their official social media channels.
Remember the Vindman screw up?
Are we supposed to believe the Army couldn’t find a Republican and US born soldier?
They had to find an immigrant who voted for Hillary Clinton and spoke at the DNC as Obama’s guest?
Isn’t this the type of thing political advisors are supposed to be keeping Dan Driscoll informed of?
Doesn’t seem like he knows too much about all of the players. A very ALOOF person. Not a good trait to have when you’re in charge of the Army.
Just another observation. I like to pay attention to the details. It’s the details that will get you. Every. Single. Time.
Details present patterns. And patterns present red flags.

WOW! I don’t think Looney comes close to describing Laura Loomer. I suspect Trump finds her as unattractive to look at as I do (and most people I bet) but by golly intellectually (I use the term loosely) and emotionally they are freaking soul-mates. Trump is famously disdainful of military service. He RESENTS it, and when it comes to those who’ve displayed true courage and sacrifice he feels I’m certain a visceral HATRED of those who have done or would do things he has never had the courage to do.
Anyway this could get interesting. As I said Trump already has a Hegseth problem and as the linked article explains Hegseth has been silent on this. I rather enjoy the knowledge of the torment he’s experiencing today. On the one hand he can back Loomer’s play and make his boss look even worse. Or he can denounce Loomer’s comments or even just continue to pretend not to know about them and find her going after HIM. Which would result in Trump firing him. It’s losing time one way or the other for Hegseth and I say the countdown clock is running.
In the meantime Trump’s having to deal with conservatives who are openly criticizing Loomer’s remarks. It’s hidden behind a paywall but I gather a WaPo article on this was more like the old Washington Post instead of the ‘Bezos Bugle’ it too often is these days took a critical view of Loomer. Mediaite’s article makes note of it:
Elsewhere, speaking to The Post, Loomer’s comments were met with backlash. An Army official, speaking anonymously, called the tweet “despicable” and Groberg a “national hero”, adding: “The Army is not going to check the political affiliation of our soldiers before we recognize them.”
As for Groberg himself, he declined to speak to the WaPo (or it seems other outlets) about Loomer’s comments but instead chose to make a simple, eloquent response to her tweet with on of his own. I can’t seem to embed it but he shows Loomer’s tweet, and then under a picture of himself in uniform wearing his MOH states:

I’ve served under presidents from both parties and will always honor my oath to this country. Yes, I spoke for 60 seconds at the DNC when asked about service and sacrifice, not politics. For me, 8/8 isn’t about parties. It’s about the lives we lost.
Classy. Just what one would hope for from someone in Groberg’s position. Loomer DID actually speak to the WaPo claiming she only ‘laid out the facts.” Well, she got a big one wrong as I’ve noted. Groberg’s a fellow Republican although I wonder if since this second round of Trump is far worse than the first it’s time to at least go “Independent.” Loomer, incredibly had the gall to say “I thanked him for his service.” Bullshit, bullshit, BULLSHIT. That comment only adds insult to injury. She didn’t mean “thank you” any more than she’d obey Jesus himself it he commanded her to give a mere ten percent of her undeserved wealth to the poor!
Other Republicans turned out to be more blunt than Groberg and willing to go on the record calling her disgusting comments out:
Backlash was widespread, however, with the newspaper citing several former Pentagon officials who had served under Trump’s first administration who rallied behind Groberg.
Chris Miller, Trump’s former acting defense secretary, called Loomer’s comments “an abomination,” while Robert Wilkie, Trump’s former VA secretary, said the Medal of Honor “knows no political affiliation.”
Medal recipient Dakota Meyer was blunter in a post on X: “If anyone has earned the right to free speech… it’s a man who threw himself in front of a suicide bomber to save lives. What have you done?”
To Myer’s question I’d ask him what has Trump done? After all, Trump’s the callous asshole who stood in Arlington at the grave of then Chief of Staff retired General John Kelley’s son who was killed in action in Afghanistan and gestured at all the gravestones – and said “I don’t get it. What was in it for them?” Trump was gutless when HE could have stepped up and served. If nothing else he could have had his dad make sure he stayed in some safe stateside staff job on the other side of the world from the fighting in Vietnam. But Trump, like Loomer and damned near everyone now serving Trump is a f**king CHICKEN HAWK.
Well, I could rant all day about this but I’ve probably gone on too long already. So I’ll try to wrap it up with this: Loomer has put Trump in a bind. He probably can’t stand her any more than any of us can but she’s a useful tool in his Texas Chainsaw Massacre guy woodshed. However trashing a recipient of the MOH might have been a burned bridge too far and he might have to cut her loose. As in not only not allowing her at his clubs but NOT following through (at least some of the time) on demands she will continue to make on twitter and RWNJ media to fire this or that person.
If Trump thinks he needs to create some distance just to save his own ass which is currently being blowtorched by Epstein stuff he will throw Loomer under the bus in a heartbeat. Just like he’s done to so many others. If Hegseth doesn’t publicly denounce her too Trump might decide he’s finally got an excuse to dump him too! Dare we hope for a “twofer” out of this? If there’s one thing I’m fairly sure of it’s that Trump’s ONLY concern these days is finding a way out of the Epstein mess he’s created for himself. A heaping main course of ‘Loomer tossed under the bus’, especially with a desert of ‘Hegseth too’ if Petey doesn’t have the good sense to get ahead of things would make a marvelous distraction for Trump when he really, REALLY needs one.

I’m not sure about your suggestion that Trump “probably can’t stand” Loony Laura; she’s a loyal sycophant, a handy mouthpiece if and when needed and she just may have some sexual favors on offer to a lonely old man in need of comforting in between late-night posts. Donald knows he’s past the young blonde stage of his awkward, offensive and demeaning pursuit of women for sex. Loony might be just what he needs because it’s all he can get.
It’s getting harder and harder to decide who is the worst person in the Trump regime.
But Ms Loomer is certainly near the top of the list.
I think it largely depends on the day of the week.
