Well. It’s about damn time these people woke up and stepped up! The people who aren’t brainwashed and crazy have been supporting Ukraine from the get-go, but it needs to be bigger than that. It just did. And from *Republicans*!!! Everyone mark this day on their calendars. REPUBLICANS are trying to help. I about fell out of my chair!
Let’s start here: “Republican Rep. Michael McCaul called out members of his party behind closed doors this week for parroting Russian disinformation and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s talking points, a source in the room told CNN. McCaul, a former House Foreign Affairs chairman from Texas and staunch supporter of Ukraine, acknowledged during the private event Tuesday with NATO ambassadors and defense ministers that his strong stance that the US should play an active US role in deterring Russian aggression in Ukraine makes him a dying breed in the Republican Party, the source added.” Now isn’t that interesting? That’s a pretty impress resume he has. He obviously knows what he’s talking about, also a nice change for a Republican.
“McCaul has previously warned about Russian propaganda infecting “a good chunk” of his party’s base.” Stand up and be counted, folks! This is bigger than just Russia and the war. (Too bad Agent Orange doesn’t give a damn about Ukraine, that POS.) Ukraine will run out of supplies to continue fighting and that’s all she wrote. President Zelenskyy will have to flee the country since there will likely a price on his head. At least if he can get to the EU, he has a good chance of being protected.
But, back to our Republicans. “The shift in the party away from former GOP President Ronald Reagan’s “peace through strength” has created a tightrope of sorts for many Republicans looking to balance their support for Ukraine with the more isolationist view embraced by President Donald Trump. While Republicans in Congress have been split on continuing aid to Ukraine amid its three-year war with Russia, a number in the party continue to publicly advocate for the war-torn country.” Jeesh, folks, Russia, a much bigger and better supplied country, is going to roll over a democracy. Does that not matter? Because come on now, do you really think that Russia will stop after taking over ONE country? Not hardly. This is *Putin* we’re discussing.
GOP Rep Don Bacon spoke up at an event “This is a winning issue. Yet Republicans are divided on it,” with Ukraine Parliament’s Chair of the Defense Committee, MP Oleksandr Lytvynenko by his side. Two days after the Trump’s Oval Office confrontation with Zelensky, GOP Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick took matters into his own hands to speak with Zelensky’s chief of staff and get “this train back on the tracks.” Former Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell sharply criticized Agent Orange’s administration’s Ukraine policy and pivot toward isolationism last month, accusing El Presidente Imbécil’s advisers of showing “their embarrassing naivete” in dealings with Russian President Vladimir Putin. GOP Sen. Roger Wicker gave an impassioned floor speech last month speaking out against reports that the tRump administration was preparing to lift a number of sanctions against Russia. And Rep Don Bacon published a New York Times op-ed this week entitled “My Fellow Republicans and President Trump, We Must Stand Up to Putin.” That’s some serious stepping up to the plate! GOP Rep Dan Newhouse spoke about us needing our allies just as much as they need us. And that op-ed? WOW.
A number of Republicans who have pushed back on the administration say they have to be strategic about when to make public statements. “There’s chairman of committees that say, ‘Don, you’re the spokesman on this, you need to keep it up.’ Including ones that are not vocal themselves,” Bacon said.” That’s a big order. And it’s all about timing. Republicans are committed to making their cases to whomever will listen. Sometimes it needs to be to just one person. Other times it needs to be everyone in Congress.
Let me close with something I found funny. Speaker Mike Johnson, who risked his job last year to pass critical funding for foreign aid, has dramatically retreated on the issue and recently deferred to Trump. At the Conservative Political Action Conference in February Johnson shook his head when asked if he saw another funding bill for the war in Ukraine. “There’s no appetite for that,” the speaker said. “What do you think?” The far-right crowd erupted in boos. Karma is a bitch, Mikey.
*****And now, please read a very special request from our awesome boss******
Zoomers, if you have any spare change, please, we could use it. We are now entering month five of Trump Depression Syndrome, the moniker given to the phenomenon of a lot of Democrats tuning out from politics to save their sanity. I understand and respect that. I also know that somebody has to stay on the front lines, or there won’t be an army left to fight this war. So, that’s us. Please, we could use your help. And thank you for coming here to read about all the events. Ursula

They sent notices to Ukrainian refugees they had to leave the country. Then they later said oops…our mistake. Seems to be a pattern. I guess they’ll have 15 minutes to let us all know they mistakenly started a war by accidentally firing a nuke into Iran.
I saw that! So not only is Ukraine fighting against a bigger opponent, now we have to send them back? What a bunch of hooey. Nuke into Iran? We’ll just get to do what the joke is – put our heads between our lags and kiss our asses goodbye. Glad to have you back!
I will never understand isolationism. We all.live on the same planet. We are stuck here. Ukraine matters not just because it is a sovereign nation invaded by another nation, but because if it falls, every other member of the formet Soviet Union is at risk. Trump’s teenage crush to.the contrary, Russia is still one of our two biggest enemies,,and we need to stop Vlad’s imperialist dreams.
I don’t understand it either. It hurts, not helps. And yes, if Ukraine falls, which I’m afraid it will do, we’re in trouble.
